    Sewer pumping units: overview, types, characteristics, installation features and reviews

    A sewage pumping unit is a complex of equipment and tanks that work together to pump wastewater. If the transportation of sewage by gravity is not possible, then there is a need to install such a station. In this case, it becomes an indispensable assistant.

    Overview of design features

    When choosing an installation, one should take into account the volume of sewage, the degree of water pollution and the size of the device, as well as the type of pollution. The choice is influenced by the relief features of the site where the station will be located, as well as the depth of the pipeline. The device of installations for various purposes may differ, but the main parts are pumps and sealed containers. They are present in all models.

    As a rule, sewage is drained into the tank by gravity, after which they are pumped out by a pump and sent to a disposal site or to a treatment plant. To date, mini-sewer pumping units are known that are connected to toilet bowls. They are aesthetic small volume tanks, which are complemented by a pump with a cutting mechanism. Such models are installed indoors.

    Typically, the tank of installations in general terms is a polymer tank that is placed in the ground. The mouth of the container should be located on the surface, which facilitates inspection, maintenance and repair. The mouth is closed by a steel or polymeric cover. Inside there is a pipeline, which is connected through pipes.

    Water flows gradually, which is provided by a bump stop. There is no flow turbulence, this is guaranteed by the water wall. Domestic sewer pumping units are equipped with one or two pumps. If the equipment will be used to remove sewage from public utilities, then there are usually at least two pumps. Different pumps are installed at stations for different purposes. For domestic installations, cutter pumps are better suited, while for utility stations they are not recommended because solid waste can damage the mechanisms.

    Varieties of sewer installations

    Pumping equipment is the main part of sewer installations. It is used for pumping sewage, storm water and industrial waste. To date, the following types of sewer pumping units are known:

    • console;
    • submersible;
    • self-priming.

    The second variety is pressure-type devices that are submerged. The material for the pump must be resistant to aggressive media. The devices are compact and take up little space, as they are under water, so there is no need to prepare a separate site. The advantages of such pumps are expressed in:

    • reliability;
    • rare need for maintenance;
    • cooling of the surrounding and flowing liquid;
    • ease of use;
    • ability to work at low temperatures;
    • universality.

    Console pumps are devices that are used for large industrial-type installations. They are not located in modular stations. When installing them, a foundation and proper plumbing are required. Such pumps are put into operation by specialists, they are in the public domain, so their repair work is simplified. Among the advantages of cantilever sewer pumping units, the following should be highlighted:

    • reliability;
    • ease of maintenance;
    • ease of access to the engine;
    • ability to change performance.

    Access to the console devices is also simplified to the impeller. But the performance can be changed by selecting the electric motor and structural elements. As for the self-priming pump, it is designed for dry installation and is a unit that is used in industrial and municipal installations for pumping contaminated effluents. Such devices are easy to maintain, due to flange mounting.

    The design is clog-free due to the passage in the nozzle and ample space in the impeller. The advantages of such devices are:

    • low susceptibility to clogging;
    • serviceability;
    • ability to work at negative temperatures;
    • the ability to pump sewage with solid elements and sediment;
    • high tightness due to mechanical seal.

    Ease of maintenance is ensured by a retractable design. Such units operate at low temperatures, because they provide for the installation of a heating element. Among other things, it is important to note that, if necessary, such a pump is quite simply dismantled.

    Mounting Features

    The installation of sewer pumping stations provides for the preparation of a pit, the depth of which must be determined so that the tank cover protrudes 1 m above the ground. A sand cushion should be laid under the bottom of the tank, the thickness of which is 1.5 m. tank, a pipeline is connected to it, and then the pit is covered with sand, which is compacted. The density of the soil should correspond to 90% of the natural.

    At the next stage, you can begin to install the pumps in the tank, while it is important to adjust the stroke of the floats. The floats of the first level should be located 0.15-0.3 m above the bottom of the tank. The next floats are 1.5 m higher than the previous ones. Now you can start laying electrical cables, connecting power and arranging grounding. When checking the performance of the system and the performance of the pump, it is necessary to use clean water taken from a tank or water supply.

    Characteristics of Sololift2

    Sololift2 is a whole series of sewage pumping units with which you can easily drain sewage from any plumbing, regardless of the gravity drainage system. Each model has its own characteristics. For example, WC-1 has a power in the range of 0.62 kW. The pressure is 8.5 m. As for the supply, it will reach 149 liters per minute. The maximum fluid temperature for each model is 50°C.

    If you are interested in Grundfos products, the Sololift2 WC 1 sewage pumping unit can be considered as an example. The abbreviation WC indicates that you have a model that has the ability to connect to the toilet. It is equipped with a cutting mechanism and has a compact design.

    The number indicates an additional connection, this should not include a WC connection. There is also a C-3 model on sale, which has a power of 0.64 watts. The pressure in this case is 8.8 m, and the water supply is provided in the amount of 185 liters per minute. This model is used for pumping domestic wastewater and is a professional installation. It provides the ability to adjust the trigger level.

    The unit is characterized by simple maintenance, in which the hands remain clean. The body of the device has a compact size. The Sololift2 WC 3 sewage pumping unit has similar characteristics, among them is the power, which, like the first of the described pumps, is 0.62 W. The pressure in this case also remains the same - 8.5 m. The water supply is provided in the amount of 149 liters per minute.

    What else is important to know

    You can connect a washbasin, toilet, shower, bidet and urinal to the above installation, but each equipment is only one copy. The mass of the device is 7.3 kg. The suction line may have a diameter ranging from 32 to 50 mm. As for the injection pipeline, its diameter is 22-40 mm.

    Another Sololift2 sewer pumping unit - D-2. It is used to pump sewage from a washbasin or shower. You can install the device under the shower or washbasin. Quite often, the unit is located nearby. The unit is miniature, it provides a low level of starting, and during maintenance, the hands remain clean. The unit weighs only 4.3 kg. The maximum head is 5.5 m.

    The cost of sewer installations from the manufacturer Grundfos

    If you are interested in Grundfos sewer pumping units, the price of this equipment should also be of interest to you. Model WC-1 can be purchased for 23600 rubles. But WC-3 will cost a little more - 29,400 rubles. The CWC-3 has a higher price, you will have to pay 29,900 rubles for this model. The average cost is C-3 - 26200 rubles.

    More about cost

    You can buy the D-2 model at the lowest cost, it is equal to 19,800 rubles. Those consumers who are interested in Grundfos sewage pumping units should understand the designations. The letter C in the marking indicates that the model has a compact design. But the letter D will indicate the model for the shower. As for the numbers, they indicate the number of additional devices. It is also important to know information about the C-3 and D-2 units, which are not equipped with a cutting mechanism.
