Предлоги места (Prepositions of Place) используются для обозначения направления и положения в пространстве. Из всех возможных предлогов, они являются чаще всего используемыми. Сегодня рассмотрим предлоги в английском языке упражнения с которыми помогут легче усвоить материал и закрепить выученную тему. Но для начала немного теории для общего понимания или напоминания.

Предлоги в английском языке: таблица с примерами

Каждый день мы говорим, что мы куда-то идем, откуда-то возвращаемся, куда-то направляемся и пр. Чтобы правильно выразить свое намерение или рассказать о поездке, нужно знать использовать в речи предлоги места. Их не так уж и много. За два-три дня можно полностью выучить все существующие предлоги и научиться употреблять их в разговоре.

Справка: Если применять теорию с примерами, то изучение предлогов будет легким даже для детей, а не только для взрослых. Итак, выучим нужные нам в английском языке, а потом рассмотрим и упражнения.

Если мы подразумеваем, что внутри стола находится ящик для канцелярских и пр. принадлежностей. Во время перевода нужно смотреть именно на контекст, который поможет перевести нужное предложение правильно. У вас уровень intermediate? Отлично! Вы вполне справитесь с заданием! А если вы все же немного путаетесь, то делайте упражнения с переводом. Так занятия будут более эффективными.

Обратите внимание! От предлога может зависеть весь смысл предложения, особенно если оно небольшое! Over the river/under the river – наглядный пример. Второй яркий пример – on the left/to the left . On the left означает слева, по левую сторону, to the left – налево. Чтобы правильно сочинить предложение и помочь человеку добраться до нужного места, умение различать эти два предлога очень вам пригодится.

Предлоги on, in и at для обозначения места.

Чаще других употребляются предлоги места on, in и at. Каждый из этих предлогов является многозначным.

On на,

на поверхности

оn the floor – на полу;

on the beach – на берегу;

on board – на борту;

on paper – на бумаге;

нахождение на какой-л. реке London stands on the Thames. – Лондон расположен на реке Темза;

указывает на сторону: справа / слева on the right – справа, on the left - слева;

Предлоги among и between .

Предлоги among и between схожи по значению, но не являются взаимозаменяемыми, поэтому нужно четко дифференцировать их значения. Between – между 2-мя предметами / лицами. Among – среди нескольких предметов / лиц.

There was a violent collision between the two galaxies. – Между этими двумя галактиками было сильное столкновение.

The minister called for better cooperation among French-speaking States. – Министр призвал к более тесному сотрудничеству между франкоговорящими штатами.

Beside, near, next to, by.

Beside, near, next to, by – еще одна группа похожих предлогов. Но в отличие от предыдущей пары, эти предлоги в значении рядом с взаимозаменяемы.

next to the stove / beside the stove / near the stove / by the stove - около плиты.

next to Kyle / beside Kyle / near Kyle / by Kyle - возле Кайла

Bobby was sitting next to beside Mr. Briggs. Bobby was sitting near Mr. Briggs. Bobby was sitting by Mr. Briggs. Бобби сидел рядом с мистером Бриггсом.

Beside имеет еще одно значение - вне, за пределами.

beside my understanding – за пределами моего понимания

Предлоги inside и outside .

Предлоги места inside и outside – просты в применении. Они имеют только по одному значению, а поэтому Вы не запутаетесь.

inside – внутри

outside – снаружи, за пределами

inside the eye – в глазу

inside the starship – внутри космического корабля

inside a hemisphere – внутри полусферы

outside the permitted area – вне разрешенной области

outside the camp – вне лагеря

outside all blocks – вне блоков

Предлоги места round и around.

Предлоги round и around имеют много общего, но не являются полностью идентичными. Оба предлога имеют значение вокруг:

round the fires – вокруг огней,

round a plantation – вокруг плантации,

around the police car – вокруг полицейской машины,

around a fire – вокруг костра.

Помимо этого, around в качестве предлога времени может переводится как около, неподалёку:

around here – неподалеку отсюда,

around Asmara – неподалеку от Асмэры.

In front of, opposite и behind.

Предлоги in front of, opposite и behind часто используются для описания местонахождения объектов относительно друг друга.

in front of – перед,

opposite – напротив,

behind – позади, за.

Greg went on gazing in front of him as calmly as before. – Грег продолжал спокойно смотреть перед собой.

Molly parked her car in front of the office. – Молли припарковалась у офиса.

The fisherman sat down opposite me. – Рыбак сел напротив меня.

In the left corner opposite the door there were several ikons. – В левом углы на против двери висело несколько икон.

Jack slammed the door behind the old woman. – Джек захлопнул дверь за пожилой женщиной.

She noticed Peter stick his tongue out at her behind the doctor’s back. – Она заметила, что Питер показывает ей язык за спиной у доктора.

Будьте внимательны, пользуясь этими предлогами места для описания расположения зданий. Многие путают in front of и opposite . Opposite – это всегда через дорогу . A вот in front of означает, что оба здания стоят по одну сторону дороги .

Предлоги above и below, over и under.

Английские предлоги места above и over указывают на более высокое расположение одного предмета по отношению к другому. Предлоги below и under указывают на более низкое расположение. Рассмотрим каждый из этих предлогов места в отдельности и с примерами.

Above выше, над (в пространственном отношении)

above her head – над ее головой

clouds above the streets – облака над улицами

вне, за пределами, above temptation – вне подозрений

поверх, на фоне shots above the crowd – выстрелы поверх толпы

Over на, над

over the cot – над детской кроваткой

over the garden – над садом

по ту сторону, через, за

over the bridge – по ту сторону моста

over the river – по ту сторону реки

у, возле stop over her – остановись возле неё

Предлоги места above и over в значении над очень похожи. Но есть между ними и небольшая разница. Оver мы будем использовать, если описываемые нами объекты соприкасаются или в случае, если один предмет используется для защиты другого, а above – если объекты расположены на отдалении друг от друга и нас интересует исключительно пространственная составляющая.

Molly put on a coat over her dress. – Молли надела пальто поверх платья.

The sky is above us. – Над нами небо.

Это правило не всегда используется, однако, если Вы не можете решить, какой предлог места выбрать – смело им руководствуйтесь.

Below - ниже, под. The cargo space is below the quarters and below that there is a power room. Под жилым отсеком расположен трюм, а еще ниже - машинное отделение.

Under под, ниже under the horse"s legs – под ногами у лошади

под поверхностью under the covers – под одеялом under the roof – под крышей у, около, под under the lamp-post – у фонаря

Разница между under и below в том, что under мы используем, когда один предмет находится под защитой другого или в непосредственной близи, а предлог below – когда мы говорим о географическом или логическом расположении.

It was raining and we decided to stay under the roof. – Шел дождь и мы решили остаться под крышей.

Рассмотрим английский предлог места beyond . за, по ту сторону, за пределами

beyond Tanai-el-Hassan - по ту сторону Танаи-эль-Хассана

beyond the wall - по ту сторону стены

выше beyond the Backbone of Night – выше перевала ночи там,

на расстоянии beyond 50 kilometres – на расстоянии 50 км

Предлог to употребляется в качестве предлога места в единственном случае – в Present Perfect. Molly has never been to Kenya. – Молли никогда не была в Кении.

Предлоги in, at, on, to и from могут выражать как пространственные, так и временные отношения.

1. Предлоги места и времени: in, at, on

Предлоги места in, at и on отвечают на вопрос где ?
Предлог in обозначает нахождение предмета на территории или в пределах указанного места и обычно переводится предлогом в . Например:

We study in Leningrad. Мы учимся в Ленинграде.
The students live in tents in summer. Летом студенты живут в палатках.

Предлог at обозначает: а) нахождение у или около указанного предмета. Например:

I sit at the table. Я сижу у стола (за столом).
The tram stops at the mill. Трамвай останавливается около завода.

б) пребывание в определенном месте, связанное с участием в процессе действия, характерном для данного места. Например:

We study at the Institute ["institju:t] Мы учимся в институте.
We make paper at the paper mill. Мы выделываем бумагу на бумажной фабрике.

Предлог on обозначает нахождение предмета на какой-либо поверхности и обычно переводится предлогом на . Например:

The lamp stands on the table. Лампа стоит на столе.

Предлоги времени in, at и on отвечают на вопрос когда ? Предлог in обозначает, что действие, выраженное глаголом, совершается в пределах указанного времени:

Не rests in June . Он отдыхает в июне.
The students go home in summer . Летом студенты едут домой.

Во временном значении in обычно переводится предлогом в . При употреблении с названиями частей дня или года в русском языке ему не соответствует никакой предлог:

in summer летом
in winter зимой

Предлог at указывает на определенный момент времени совершения действия. Например:

I get up at 8 . Я встаю в восемь (часов).

Предлог on употребляется с названиями дней недели (и с указанием числа месяца).

We rest on Sundays ["sʌndеiz]. По воскресеньям мы отдыхаем.
On the 6th of July she goes home . 6 июля она едет домой.

2. Предлоги места и времени to и from

Предлоги места to и from связаны с представлением о передвижении с одного места на другое: to отвечает на вопрос куда ?, from - откуда ? Оба они могут переводиться на русский язык разными предлогами.

Предлог to указывает на движение в направлении, обозначенном последующим существительным. Например:

I go to the Institute. Я иду в институт.
I go to the mill. Я иду на завод.
I go to the table. Я иду к столу.

Предлог from указывает на движение от места, обозначенного существительным. Например:

I go from the Institute. Я иду из института.
I go from the mill. Я иду с завода.
I go from the table. Я иду от стола.

Предлог времени from указывает на время, с которого начинается действие; предлог времени to - на его конечный момент. В значении to может употребляться предлог till . Например:

from six с шести (часов) - (с какого времени?)
to (till) ten до десяти (часов) - (до какого времени?)
from five to six с пяти до шести (часов)

3. Предлог with

Предлог with служит для обозначения совместности действия и отвечает на вопрос с кем ?, с чем? Например:

I go to the mill with Pete. Я иду на завод с Петром.
I go to the Institute with my bag in hand. Я иду в институт с портфелем в руке.

Как видно из перевода примеров, между английскими и русскими предлогами нет прямого соответствия. При переводе на русский язык необходимо учитывать содержание английского предлога. Сравните:

in Leningrad - в Ленинграде with Jim - с Джимом
at the Institute - в институте from the mill - с завода
to the Institute - в институт from six - с шести (часов)
at six - в шесть (часов) to the mill - на завод
at the mill - на заводе
on the table - на столе

В английском языке после предлога существительное имеет форму общего падежа.
