Sony xperia lt29i xperia tx. Sony Xperia TX (LT29i) review - flagship with a huge screen

    20.05.2013

    Lyrical introduction

The lyrical introduction you are reading now is the same for the two simultaneously published reviews: the Xperia TX review (which is now in front of you) and the Xperia SP review. But don't be alarmed. The reviews themselves are different.

Sony has large originals. How else can you explain that in our market as many as three of their smartphones with approximately the same screen diagonal on similar hardware are sold at the same time for comparable money? Xperia ion, Xperia TX, Xperia SP. Oh, there is also the Xperia T. Officially, however, it is not delivered to us, but, nevertheless, it is sold. And quite actively.

Two of the more recent of this trinity fell into my hands at the same time: the Xperia TX and the Xperia SP. The devices are not serial, they are test devices. Provided to me by a PR agency, maintained by Sony. And since I didn’t ask both of these devices for the test at the same time, it seems they wanted me to compare them. Well, let's try.

I pondered for a long time whether it is worth making one review, but a large one, or still breaking it into two, but smaller. I decided to try to make two separate reviews. For there are many differences between the devices. But, of course, the second device will be often mentioned in both reviews.

The Xperia SP's screen is significantly weaker. Less contrast, worse picture quality when viewed from an angle. However, as I was warned, serial smartphones may have better screens than test ones.

    Operating system and other software

Especially saddened by the results of the game test. Only 3 hours 10 minutes of playing Zombirds (versus 5 hours 30 minutes for the Xperia SP).

Sony Xperia TX as a phone

There are no comments to use as a phone. But somehow it didn't work out with Skype. If there is no video, everything is fine. If with the video, then I cannot hear the interlocutor.

As in the case of the Xperia SP, the screen does not dim when the phone is placed horizontally.

Sony Xperia TX as a flashlight

The camera flash is quite good at pretending to be a flashlight.

Sony Xperia TX as a photo and video camera

The main camera is almost 13 megapixels. With autofocus and flash, of course. The quality of the photos is quite decent, I liked it. And differently better than

I already talked in detail about the announcement of the new line of Sony smartphones in the style of the Xperia arc - a thin, slightly curved smartphone, which got its name from the curved back cover. This year, Sony decided to use the same design idea to the maximum and presented 3 similar smartphones at once: Xperia J, Xperia T, Xperia V. Xperia T received a variation with a slightly changed appearance called TX, and it will be sold in Russia. It differs from the Xperia T in both a removable battery and a slightly thinner one, which, you see, is not bad.

The flagship of the trinity is formally considered the Xperia T (and TX in Russia, respectively), although technologically more interesting than the Xperia V, and it's all about the screen size. The Xperia TX has Sony's maximum element of 4.6 inches, while the Xperia V is only 4.3 inches. Apart from the screen size, the Xperia V, in my opinion, is a real flagship: it has LTE support, a waterproof case, the screen is made using new technology. I myself am really looking forward to this device, since for me 4.3 inches is the optimal display size, but the protection from water has not bothered anyone yet. But now the market is demanding more and more screens, so the Xperia TX will play the role of the device with the largest display in the Sony lineup.

    Comparison with Xperia T:

    Specifications Sony Xperia TX LT29i

    Design, convenience

In terms of appearance, the device is certainly beautiful. The thinness of the case and the curvature are emphasized by the large screen with a thin bezel, the materials are very good, the matte slightly rough plastic resembles polycarbonate, only harder.

    Compare with LG Optimus L9:

The build quality is traditionally good, but the monolithic predecessors (Xperia S, acro S) are better for obvious reasons. But the removable cover and the large body make themselves felt. However, if you don't find fault, there are no flaws in the assembly of the device. I like the combination of materials: the main body is matte, there is a metallized edging at the ends, and the area above it is already glossy white. This isn't noticeable from a distance, but the attention to detail is commendable.

In addition to white, there is a traditional black, as well as dark pink, which will be delivered to Russia later. The feminine version that looks very good, the shade is right.

Having spent many months with the Xperia S, I can say that the new design concept is more successful, the corners do not cut into the palm, the minimal thinness pleases, and thanks to the curvature of the Xperia TX, it fits perfectly in the hand. In addition, the absence of traditional buttons under the screen allowed us to reduce the space, TX is smaller in size than its predecessor Xperia ion with the same screen size.

There are not many controls: buttons for adjusting the volume and launching the camera / shooting on the right, and blocking / off on the left. Why the lock / off button is there, I do not understand, it is difficult for right-handers to unlock the phone with one hand. In general, I am surprised by the constant movement of buttons from one end to another. In Xperia S, the lock is generally on the top, in TX - on the left, and only in Xperia V and some other models, as expected, on the right.

There are also a couple of connectors: 3.5mm at the top and micro-USB at the top right, and that's it. As you can see, they refused from HDMI, the connection to the TV is realized via micro-USB. There are no touch buttons either, the Xperia TX is controlled only from the screen. Instead of buttons, there is a glowing Xperia logo, which looks beautiful in the dark.

As I said, the back panel is removable, here, in addition to a 1750 mAh battery, there are slots for a SIM card and a micro-SD memory card. Again, when compared to the Xperia S, the panel is much better here. The camera module is not recessed, so the glass can be easily wiped clean before shooting. In the predecessor, for this elementary procedure, you have to remove the entire panel.

    Screen

The Sony Xperia TX uses a 4.6- (to be precise, 4.55-) inch screen, the usual HD resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels for flagships. The screen clarity is about 320 pixels per square inch - comparable to the Apple iPhone 5. In general, its characteristics are similar to the Xperia ion, it looks better than the Xperia S (as well as the Xperia acro S): more viewing angles, colors do not fade so much when tilted.

I can't say anything bad about the screen, I like it more than the same Samsung Galaxy S3 with unnatural colors and the PenTile pixelation effect, but the Xperia TX is also not the leader: the picture quality is ahead of the IPS elements of the same Nokia Lumia 920 or Xperia V with new technology BRAVIA Mobile Engine 2.

    Hardware platform, battery

Xperia TX is the first Sony smartphone on the fourth generation of Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, it uses the MSM8260A Krait chipset, the graphics core Adreno 225. The chipset is made on 28 nm technology and shows excellent results in benchmarks, it is better optimized than 4-core solutions from NVIDIA and Samsung. Actually, if the previous generation of Sony smartphones lagged behind competitors in hardware, the new models fully correspond to the flagship status.

As you can see, the results are very, very good, the smartphone is inferior only to the newest flagships like the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, outperforming all the others (4-core HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy S3 including). I have something to compare with - Sony Xperia S works a little slower, it is more likely to catch the "brakes" when performing any operations.

    AnTuTu Benchmarks and Quadrant:

When it comes to battery life, the Sony Xperia TX can hardly be called unusual or outstanding. The 1750 mAh battery is not very much for a large screen, and in the end the results are average. In AnTuTu tests, the device scored 379 points, which is noticeably less than the Xperia ion we recently tested (533 points, but there is also a 1900 mAh battery). So you shouldn't count on a long battery life, it's one day with intensive use, the standard for top-end Android smartphones.

At the same time, video playback tests show very good results, about 6 hours (an AVI movie was played).

The Xperia TX has Sony's signature fast charging feature. The set with the device is supplied with a power supply with increased power, which charges the battery almost twice as fast as standard chargers. There is also an application called "Economy Mode". Here you can configure many parameters such as screen brightness, data sync, display off time, networks, animation and more. When saving mode is enabled, the selected services will be disabled. In this mode, the device will last much longer, but it all depends on the selected parameters, of course.

The amount of memory is 16 GB (built-in), there is a slot for Micro-SD cards, 1 GB of RAM, the figures are typical for 2012 flagships.

Of the new applications, I will note Xperia Link - a program for connecting a computer or tablet to the Internet via a smartphone's cellular connection. Roughly speaking, a smartphone can distribute 3G over Wi-Fi to other devices, this is an implementation of an access point from Sony.

There is an interesting feature: Wi-Fi by location. The smartphone can turn on Wi-Fi only when it is within range of an already known network to which it can connect. This is done again to save energy, so that Wi-Fi is not turned on all the time.

    Camera

The Xperia TX features a new 13 megapixel camera module with a Sony Exmor R sensor. This sensor with backlight technology provides an edge when shooting in low light conditions. Video recording is also available in 1080p at 30 fps with constant autofocus, and there is a second microphone for recording stereo sound. The difference with its predecessors is only 1 megapixel, which is insignificant at such values, so it is interesting to look at the quality of the shooting. In my opinion, it hardly differs from the Xperia S.

    Camera interface:

    Examples of pictures:

    Interface and multimedia

At the moment, all current Sony smartphones come with Androids 4.0.4 ICS, for most models (including 2011) an update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is announced (early next year). At the same time, the software devices are very similar to each other, the interface is unified in them. Xperia TX, V and subsequent models have virtual (on-screen) buttons for control instead of touch buttons under the screen, I like this option a little more, besides, new versions of Android also offer buttonless options.

As I said, the interface of the new Sony smartphones is almost the same. There are folders on the desktop (you can group any applications), sorting in the main menu, a full set of widgets, and so on. With five desktops and such shortcuts / folders, you will rarely have to access the main menu. By the way, the main menu can also be arranged. As you wish - alphabetically, for example, or arbitrarily. Screens with icons are scrolled horizontally.

The keyboard has changed again. There are already known layout options: some letters, letters with a second row of symbols, button layout options (punctuation marks, smilies), as well as covers - light or dark, combined. A magnifier (known from the iPhone) has been added for editing words and moving the cursor (although it is not visible in the screenshots), so the keyboard as a whole has become even better. For me, the input in Sony smartphones seems to be one of the best on the market, there are practically no errors.

I’ll tell you about the improved photo gallery, the mechanism for selecting multiple photos and operations with them.

New to the Xperia TX (not the last of its predecessors, the Xperia ion, for example) are gadgets. They resemble widgets and can be placed anywhere on the screen (on the desktop, or in the menu, or the player - it doesn't matter). Widgets allow you to perform the simplest actions: a voice recorder, calculator, notes, which are available simultaneously with the main application running. So, it has become much easier to record conversations, for example, or count something without leaving the browser. Mini-applications will be available in the Google Play store, however, so far it is empty, there are only pre-installed by the manufacturer.

The OfficeSuite package is preinstalled for viewing and editing documents, the Chrome browser, the WisePilot navigation (paid and therefore not very interesting). Of the useful chips - a separate application for backup and recovery, where you can select a location for the copy, as well as completely customize the list of data for backup. Here you can also mark the applications that you would like to save. A handy thing, because in Android, backups are done using third-party programs, right there it is included.

The multimedia experience is almost identical to other top Sony devices, although the sound quality has improved slightly thanks to the new hardware platform. The sound in the headphones is louder, and in general, the smartphone is quite suitable as a replacement for the player for undemanding users. True, the device falls short of the leaders (iPhone or Acer CloudMobile S500), of course.

The Xperia TX plays unconverted 720p video (AVI, for example) without problems, the codecs are preinstalled. The "Movies" application has a new look, there are window thumbnails, the position is remembered and you can continue playback.

The player interface is similar to other Xperia smartphones: there is a customizable equalizer, ClearBass function and other gadgets: for example, editing tags, album art, plus the Infinity button remains. If you press this button while listening to a song, the device will show all information about the artist, song, album, other tracks from this album, you can go to the artist's official website, buy other songs using the PlayNow service.

There is a visualization mode during playback, you can choose one of seven options.

Conclusions about the smartphone Sony Xperia TX

The Sony Xperia TX is Sony's top-of-the-line device that has been designed with the latest trends in mind. Very large screens and minimum thickness are in fashion - get it. An HD screen with a diagonal of 4.6 inches, thickness of 8.6 mm at its thinnest point and a proprietary curvature of the back surface - this is how the Xperia TX can be described in three words. It is also the first Sony smartphone on the newest hardware platform (the latest generation Qualcomm S4 chip) and the first available device with a 13 megapixel camera.

The combination of all these characteristics, as well as prices (about 25 thousand at the time of the start of sales, more precisely, it is not yet known) indicate the flagship status of the novelty. As I said at the beginning of the review, it is formally such. There are, of course, downsides (I expected a better 13MP camera and better battery life), but they hold true for the Xperia TX rivals as well.

The piquancy of the situation lies in the fact that in the Sony lineup there is another smartphone, Xperia V, which has a smaller screen size, but very similar other characteristics, plus support for LTE and a waterproof case. For me personally, the Xperia V is more interesting, and I'm waiting for it to replace my Xperia S, since I consider the 4.3-inch screen size to be optimal. But the huge popularity of large Android blades (with screens of 4.6 inches and above) clearly indicates that they have a rather big audience. This is how Sony divided the flagships for different categories of consumers: one is larger, the second is smaller, each is successful in its own way.

Testing the new flagship of the Xperia line

At the beginning of autumn, we visited the IFA 2012 exhibition of household appliances and electronics and sorted out in detail the intricate long list of smartphones from the Sony Xperia family, presented in all its diversity at the stand of this Japanese company. It turned out to be not so easy to figure it out, because since the beginning of this year, the Japanese have not only managed to release a lot of new smartphones, of which there will already be at least a dozen and a half, but, moreover, they also managed to change their flagships twice. And this is just 9 months!

At the same place, during IFA 2012, four completely new models from the Xperia family were presented to the general public for the first time, each of which bears a letter designation: Sony Xperia J, V, T and TX. Sony Xperia J is the simplest model of the four presented, and today we will not dwell on it in detail. Xperia T is a modification of Sony Xperia TX, but it is distinguished by a non-replaceable battery and, accordingly, a different body structure arising from this fact. Otherwise, the T model is practically a copy of the Sony Xperia TX, but it is intended for the operator market and will not be officially sold in our country. But devices called Sony Xperia V and TX are worth paying your closest attention to. As for the Sony Xperia V, this is the expected by all "handsome", which, not yet published, has already managed to conquer many hearts and made them wait in awe for their appearance. The model is really very beautiful externally, quite productive hardware, stylish and expensive looks, and everything else has a certified IP57 protection against dirt and water. A very, very worthy contender for modern "mods" such as Huawei Ascend P1, Samsung Galaxy S3, iPhone 5, HTC One S, LG Optimus 4X HD and others - it is expected to arrive in the very near future.

But he also has an older brother - perhaps not so handsome, but by birth it is he who is destined to take the throne now. The name of the new flagship among Sony smartphones is Xperia TX, and today is our story about it.

    Appearance and usability

We figured out the positioning of the Sony Xperia TX model - this is the new flagship of the Sony smartphone line. The fact that the new flagship replaced the previous one in such a short time is quite understandable: Sony Xperia S came out, to put it mildly, not quite as successful as the creators themselves would like to present it. The model received a lot of criticism about everything, from the poor location of the keys and the lack of expandable memory to the unworthy short battery life from one battery charge. Obviously, this was the reason for such a quick change of power in the camp of Japanese mobile devices, and a new flagship was nominated to the first place. He is devoid of most of the flaws of his ancestor, but, perhaps, he managed to acquire his own flaws. So let's take a closer look at the Sony Xperia TX (model LT29i).

As for the appearance of Sony Xperia TX, not only it, but all of the above four new smartphones have received the "old" design, which has already "caught" its share of enthusiasm during last year's release of the communicator Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc.

The new Sony Xperia TX has exactly the same concave back cover, and a metallized bezel around the entire perimeter, curving on the side edges, visually adds even more curvature to the phone body itself.

The back cover itself, like the rest of the case, is made of plastic - there are no metal parts here. But in contrast to the front glossy shiny panel, the back surface has a soft-touch rubberized plastic, due to this it holds perfectly in the hand, does not slip and does not collect fingerprints and grease from the palms.

The phone is quite large in size, but it is quite comfortable in the hand - the combination of materials and physical dimensions is well chosen. As well as the weight: 127 grams can be considered optimal for such a large device, especially if you remember that soon such monsters as Nokia Lumia 920 with a weight of 180 grams will be produced. As the saying goes, grab before it's too late.

The cover is removable, secured with several plastic latches and covers the internal slots for a removable battery, microSD memory cards and a SIM card slot. It uses a smaller Micro-SIM card.

Both cards are inserted into their slots, which do not have spring-loaded gripping mechanisms, so they are held only by the friction force and the battery supporting them. Accordingly, to take out the card, you need to hook it with your fingers, which is not the most convenient way. Suspecting that the user may have problems pulling out the cards, the creators cut through the second window through which you can push the SIM card to the exit. In any case, spring-loaded gripping mechanisms are much more convenient to use, and it is surprising to see such "savings" in such an expensive flagship device.

The keys on the Sony Xperia TX are not in the usual way. And this concerns not only the hardware buttons that are on the edges of the device, but also the touch ones. The hardware keys for volume and camera control on the right side are not surprising - we often find such an arrangement in devices of this kind. But the location of the power key in the very top corner of the left side is a little confusing. For me, as a left-hander, such an arrangement does not turn out to be anything bad: the thumb itself falls on this button. At the same time, I'm not at all sure that right-handers will comfortably reach and press this key. But on this end there is an eyelet for gripping the strap loop, which is an undoubted advantage and is rarely found in modern smartphones.

But the touch buttons that have recently become familiar, usually located in a row under the screen, are not here at all. Strictly speaking, now there is nothing under the screen at all, except for the illuminated but non-interactive inscription "xperia", and the familiar application control keys have moved to the display itself in the form of Android 4.x software icons. Considering that the ill-fated sensors constantly bothered users with their excessive sensitivity and unintended clicks, then we can assume that the transition from dedicated touch buttons to software on the screen was a step towards improving the ergonomics of a modern smartphone.

Thus, almost the entire front surface of the Sony Xperia TX is reserved for a large 4.5-inch screen, covered from the outside with a protective glass that is resistant to scratches and chips. The glass is installed flush with the sides and covered with a factory protective film on top, barely visible to the eye. It is a very good practice to install a protective film on the phone screen at the factory, and it is a pity that this experience is not being adopted by other manufacturing companies. The film removes some of the glare, prevents the appearance of fingerprints, protects the screen from chips, and besides, according to the results of experimental experiments carried out in our test laboratory, it practically does not affect the color rendition and the level of display brightness.

The Sony Xperia TX connectors are also located in an unusual way: the audio output for 3.5 mm headphones at the top will surprise no one, but Micro-USB supporting MHL technology (the ability to connect with a special cable to the HDMI input of a TV or monitor) is located , like the power button, is in the extreme position on the side of the device, only this time on the right.

During IFA 2012 at the company's stand the phone was presented in three colors: white, black and hot pink. However, now it turned out that the pink version will not officially enter our market, and the choice given to the Russian buyer will be limited only to the black or white color version. Well, the already gloomy Russia will lose a little more color - we, as they say, are not the first time.

In general, the appearance of the Sony Xperia TX does not amaze with either novelty or any special appeal. This is a completely ordinary solution, calm in all respects, which has already been tested on the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc model and its modifications - Arc S. Considering that the back cover is made of a single piece of plastic, it could have been formed in any fanciful way (or at least add corrugation to the surface). Well, this model looks very simple for the most expensive and advanced of modern Sony smartphones!

The Sony Xperia TX goes on sale in an unusually small package made of cardboard and containing, in addition to the smartphone itself, a good wired stereo headset with in-ear headphones and a set of earbuds, as well as a high-power charger (1.5 A) and a USB cable ...

    Screen

The Sony Xperia TX liquid crystal display is made using TFT TN technology, but it is very good in its capabilities: large viewing angles, a good supply of brightness and very clear rendering of all, even the smallest elements on the screen. The resolution is large, no graininess is visible, in terms of such an indicator as the density of points, the Sony Xperia TX screen outperforms most of the famous top smartphones. No roughness or imperfections were noticed at the edges of the thinnest fonts, the image is smooth, the picture is excellent in image clarity and color rendition.

The picture is further enhanced with the proprietary Mobile Bravia Engine technology, which makes it even more realistic. This technology is software, and it works only while viewing photos and videos. According to the manufacturer, the technology allows you to display the picture in a more natural way for the eye, adding clarity, saturation, contrast and, moreover, removing some of the noise.

In numbers, the physical parameters of the Sony Xperia TX screen are as follows: screen dimensions - 57 × 94 mm, diagonal - 115 mm (4.55 inches), resolution - HD 720p (1280 × 720 pixels), PPI pixel density is 323 dpi ...

The screen is quite responsive, can be controlled by multitouch gestures and is equipped with a proximity sensor that locks the display when brought to your ear. The reserve of brightness is sufficient for any level of ambient light; the screen remains readable in bright sunlight. In the settings, you can adjust the brightness level manually or turn on automatic adjustment. The machine does a good job of the task set before it, the brightness of the display is set to the optimum in any situation.

    Sound

The speaker in the Sony Xperia TX is loud enough, does not choke at the maximum volume level, but somehow it did not please with a wide range of frequencies. The most audible cut high frequencies, the bass is hardly noticeable. The same description applies to auditory dynamics.

The sound can be made even louder using the proprietary xLoud technology. This technology, developed by Sony itself, is used to increase the volume of the main speaker, while introducing the lowest possible amount of distortion with software amplification.

The stock audio player, traditionally called Walkman, is rich in settings and additional effects, such as a built-in equalizer with ten preset values \u200b\u200bto choose from (you can also set your own) or ClearBass technology. All the latest Sony smartphones released this year are sonically similar to each other: they have average-quality speakers, but they demonstrate excellent sound quality in headphones using a regular player. Especially with the listed effects involved.

    Camera

Sony Xperia TX is equipped with two digital cameras - front and rear, which is already becoming the de facto standard for modern smartphones, even not top-end configuration. The front camera with a resolution of 1.3 megapixels is not only suitable for looking at your face or organizing a video conference, but even quite suitable for quickly capturing your own image against the backdrop of especially important attractions.

The main 13-megapixel camera is equipped with a serious CMOS BSI Exmor R sensor, the lens has an aperture of F2.4. The factory presets are set to shoot at 10MP with a 16: 9 wide aspect ratio. In this case, the pictures are obtained with a size of 4128 × 2322 pixels, an example of such a picture is in front of you:

And here is the same angle captured at maximum settings: 13 megapixels, aspect ratio 4: 3, image size 4128 × 3096 pixels:

Below are a few more pictures taken at maximum resolution for self-assessment of image quality.

Thanks to the built-in macro and auto focus function, close objects, as well as text from paper or the monitor screen, can be perfectly captured by the camera, which is a significant factor for many.

The camera can shoot video in HD-resolution and does it well. Below you can find several videos about 10 seconds long, shot at a frequency of 30 frames per second. At maximum settings, clips are saved in MP4 (video - MPEG-4 AVC ( [email protected]), audio - AAC (LC)) and have a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels (16: 9).

    • Movie # 1 (15.3 MB, 1920 × 1080)

There are not many shooting settings, they are all standard and familiar from other Sony mobile devices: there is a possibility of geotagging, enabling smile detection and, of course, the main feature of Sony's top smartphone cameras is fast shooting. A hardware key on the side of the device can not only activate the camera, but also instantly shoot, even from a locked state. This feature can also be customized to suit your needs.

    Software and telephone part

Sony Xperia TX goes on sale and initially works with the fourth version of Google OS - Android 4.0.4 with a guaranteed further update to version 4.1. As usual, Sony has installed its own skin on top of the standard OS interface, which significantly changes the interface and adds several of its own applications.

It doesn't make much sense to dwell in detail on the description of the shell's capabilities and additional programs - most of them are familiar to you from the description of other modern Sony smartphones. Several online services, such as Music Unlimited, TrackID, Movies, PlayNow, offer to choose, buy and immediately launch music, movies and games; Timescape collects information about social activity of friends, and OfficeSuite allows you to fully work with office documents. An extremely useful program called Copier. and restore. " provides the ability to fully backup and restore all settings and data. Album is a slightly reworked familiar Gallery, but Film Studio is a fairly new application with which you can do video editing. How much it is in demand on a smartphone screen is another question. In general, the number and variety of programs originally preinstalled by Sony is traditionally wider than that of most smartphone manufacturers. However, no one bothers to expand this list at any time by independently downloading any applications that massively "live" in the fully functioning Google Play Store online store.

The Sony Xperia TX handles phone functions well. There is only one radio module, one SIM card. The smartphone can operate in four GSM GPRS / EDGE frequency bands 850, 900, 1800, 1900 MHz, so it is quite suitable for travelers, because it will receive a signal in most countries of the world. The radio part of the communicator is stable, in this sense the phone is reliable. During testing, no freezes or spontaneous reboots / shutdowns were noticed. The interface of the telephone part is convenient, keys, numbers and letters are clearly and large-sized, dialing of numbers and SMS messages is quite comfortable.

    Performance

The Sony Xperia TX hardware platform is based on Qualcomm's new SoC MSM8260-A Krait with a central dual-core processor running at 1.5 GHz. Graphics processing is supported by the Adreno 225 video accelerator. All this is served by 1 GB random access memory... The storage available to the user to upload their own files is approximately 10.8 GB. Nominally, the system memory in the smartphone is 16 GB, but the remaining amount is used only for the system and installed programs. When a smartphone is connected to a computer, both storages are mounted as two independent removable disks, provided that the memory card is inserted into its slot. In this case, recharging from USB occurs.

In the Quadrant Standard, the Sony Xperia TX scored 4680 points, and according to the results of comprehensive AnTuTu - 7075 points. The results are similar to those of the top flagships of this year and even exceed many of them. Undefeated was, perhaps, only the leading Samsung Galaxy S3 in all tests. The performance gain over the previous flagship of the company - Sony Xperia S - is evident.

The platform has plenty of processor performance, as well as the graphics coprocessor - the device can easily pull HD video and any games from Google Play. By the way, the necessary decoders are already preinstalled here in order to play video without conversion.

    Battery life

The lithium-ion battery installed in the Sony Xperia TX is replaceable with a capacity of 1700 mAh. The communicator cannot be called a long-liver in terms of battery life, but it is also a very weak point of its smartphone. accumulator battery is not. In a standard mode of use with the use of such functions as calls, SMS, Internet surfing and listening to music, the device lives quietly for a day, but no more.

As in the case of the Sony Xperia S, the new flagship is equipped with fast charging technology and a new type of charger with increased power. With its help, the phone is charged literally before our eyes. The Sony Xperia TX can bring the battery to a combat-ready state in just half an hour, but a full charge takes no more than an hour.

    Outcome

The official price for Sony Xperia TX in our market has not yet been determined, but it is expected that at the start of sales it will be at least 25 thousand rubles. As for our own impressions, then, summing up this review, we can briefly characterize the novelty as follows: large, productive, but if Sony representatives themselves had not dubbed it a flagship, then many would simply not have noticed it. Something is missing in the appearance of the Sony Xperia TX in order to grab attention. Something very important, charm or zest, which, oddly enough, even the not very successful Sony Xperia S had. Well, the closest relative mentioned at the beginning of the article - Sony Xperia V - will look clearly more advantageous against the TX background due to the bright striking appearance. Let it be slightly inferior to the flagship in screen diagonal and in performance, but in terms of charm, it will clearly draw all the attention to itself.

Addendum: According to a message from the Sony office, the pink version of the Sony Xperia TX smartphone will still be officially presented on the Russian market.

The Xperia TX features a 4.6-inch HD Reality Display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, also covered with mineral glass; 13MP main camera with Full HD video recording, 720p front camera, 1.5GHz dual-core processor and is natively based on Android 4.0.

    How to choose a smartphone

Xperia TX and T, which have minimal differences. The Xperia TX is intended for the Russian market, therefore we will mainly talk about it.

Let's note right away that the device uses a MicroSIM card.

The difference between the two smartphones is only that they have batteries of different capacities and, because of this, there are small differences in design (different sizes and weights). The table below reflects these points:

Sony Xperia TX has a design similar to the Arc smartphone, that is, the back of the case is curved. Otherwise, the classic look is observed: the front surface is almost completely occupied by the display, above which are the front camera, the speaker and the company logo, under which you can see the touch control keys and the Xperia series logo, on the back, made of velvety plastic, the main camera with LED flash, speaker slots and “Xperia” logo. The TX button is located on the left side, which, of course, negatively affects the ergonomics of the device, which is generally up to par.

Note that the Xperia TX has a removable battery, unlike the Xperia T.

The assembly is done very well: no creaks or backlashes, the back cover can be removed and put on without effort.

The dimensions of the device are 131x68.6x8.6 mm, and the weight is 127 g.

The package includes: the smartphone itself, a headset, a USB cable and instructions.

The gadget will be available in black, white and pink (the Xperia T will have silver instead of pink).

    Performance and software

The Sony Xperia TX smartphone is based on a Qualcomm MSM8260-A Krait dual-core processor with a clock speed of 1.5 GHz, an Adreno 225 graphics accelerator and 1 GB of RAM. Although these characteristics do not cause a storm of emotions, the gadget still works very smartly: games and applications load quickly, in general, there were no performance problems.

In the benchmarks Quadrant, NenaMark 2 and BenchMark Pi, the results of which are given below, the smartphone scored 5793 points, 60 fps and 310 points, respectively.

The device has 16 GB of permanent memory, but only one of them is available for use (there is a slot).

Powered by Xperia TX running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.

The device supports Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi hotspot and Direct), Bluetooth 3.1, A-GPS (), MHL, 3G networks, FM radio and HDMI.

The new product is preloaded with the following applications: a WebKit web browser with panning and zooming, an email client, integration with many other programs and games, there is also support for 3D games and Motion Garming technology.

The smartphone has a basic Walkman player that works with a variety of effects (ClearBass, Clear stereo and equalizer).

    Screen

The Sony Xperia TX is equipped with a 4.55-inch TFT capacitive touchscreen (Reality Display) with Mobile Bravia Engine technology, with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels and 16,777,216 colors. The screen has a protective film, which is almost invisible, so you don't even have to guess about its presence.

The Xperia TX has wide viewing angles and excellent visuals.

    Camera

The Sony Xperia TX is equipped with a 13-megapixel RGBW camera, which helps to get better footage in low light, and a pulsed LED flash. There are autofocus functions, shooting panoramic photos using Sweep Panorama technology, and smile, Full HD video recording at 30 frames per second and 16x zoom.

Photos taken with this smartphone are of very high quality: natural saturated colors and good sharpness.

The gadget is also equipped with a 1.3MP front-facing camera that captures HD video for video calling.

    Battery

The gadget has a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 1750 mAh, which, according to official documentation, will last 6 hours 40 minutes of talk time, 400 hours in standby mode and 18 hours in music listening mode.
