Is it necessary to remove the empty flower from cucumbers. Empty flowers on cucumbers: what to do? Basic requirements for growing cucumbers

Cucumbers are grown by almost everyone who has at least a small piece of land. Everyone loves to crunch on fresh, sweet, juicy fruits! But you can not wait for the harvest at all if the cucumbers are a solid empty flower!

    What is an empty flower?

Cucumber is an annual monoecious (dioecious) plant, that is, it has female and male flowers. They are distinguished as follows: the female flower under the inflorescence has a thickening (future cucumber), the male one does not. The more female flowers (moreover, pollinated female flowers), the higher the yield of cucumbers.

Female flowers must be pollinated (cucumber is also a cross-pollinated plant). Pollination occurs with the help of insects or wind, sometimes the gardener has to do it manually (below is a mini-instruction on what to do). The source of pollen is the male flower.

It is the male flowers of cucumbers that are popularly called empty flowers. Male flowers do not form ovaries, they only produce pollen necessary for pollination. They are empty and barren. It happens that in the garden there are much more male flowers than female ones, in the end - there is no harvest. There are several reasons for this phenomenon.

    By the way!

In no case should you cut off male flowers (barren flowers) on cucumbers, although there is an opinion among vegetable growers that they take away strength from plants. Without pollination, the fruits will not be tied, unpollinated female flowers will simply fall off.

    Why are cucumbers empty flowers?

So, we found that in the garden with cucumbers - basically only empty flowers (male flowers). Why? It is very important to analyze this moment, because the elimination of the cause, the correction of errors is nothing but the opportunity to return the harvest!

    1. Plants are starving. What to do? Feeds needed! Once every 2 weeks, the application of organic and mineral fertilizers should be alternated. First, we give a solution of mullein (1:10) or bird droppings (1:20). Solution consumption: 500 ml per 1 plant. Before top dressing, the bed is well spilled with water. This is followed by fertilizing with mineral fertilizers, you can take nitrophoska (1 matchbox per 10 liters of water, consumption: 500 ml per 1 plant).
    2. Too much nitrogen in the soil causes rapid growth of green mass and intensive formation of barren flowers on cucumbers. What to do? You can restore the balance of nutrients with the help of top dressing. Cucumbers are fed with superphosphate (2 tablespoons per 10 liters of water) or wood ash infusion.
    3. Sowing with fresh seeds. It is known that plants with a large number of female flowers are formed from old seeds, and fresh (last year's) ones give a solid barren flower. What to do? Fresh seeds can be used for sowing if they are preheated or soaked in Epin-Extra, Zircon or Novosil, according to the instructions for use.
    4. Powdery mildew reduces the number of female flowers. What to do? Measures are needed to prevent a dangerous disease: once every 3-4 weeks, dilute 4 g of colloidal sulfur powder in 1 liter of water and spray cucumber leaves. Solution consumption: 1 liter per 10 square meters of plantings.
    5. Drought. During drought, plants produce fewer female flowers. What to do? In dry weather, watering is necessary.
    6. Unfavourable conditions. In the shade, on dense clay soils, in thickened plantings, cucumbers grow poorly and give a lot of empty flowers. What to do? you can stimulate the formation of female flowers by pinching the tops of cucumbers - this will give impetus to the growth of side shoots with female flowers, even in adverse conditions. It will also be useful to mulch the soil with humus.

    What to do? Feed!

Locally, for each reason, we found a solution. But there are also universal ways to ensure that cucumbers stop forming barren flowers. There are several drugs on the modern market that allow you to achieve a balance in the ratio of female-male flowers:

    • "Bud",
    • "Ovary",
    • "Borogum".

Drugs should be used according to the instructions on the package. But, in order to understand the principle of their use, we will make a brief overview.

The drug "Buton" is a complex of macro- and microelements necessary for the proper nutrition of plants. "Bud" stimulates the formation of fruits, increasing productivity. It is used for feeding cucumbers, zucchini, potatoes, cabbage, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants. In 10 liters of water dissolve 10 g of the drug (available in powder form). The listed crops are sprayed in the budding phase, at the beginning of flowering, during the formation of ovaries. Solution consumption: 4 liters per 10 square meters.

The drug "Ovary" is a biological growth stimulant. It contains in its composition substances that stimulate plant growth, as well as macro- and microelements. "Ovary" compensates for the lack of nutrients in the soil, promotes the formation of ovaries and fruits, increasing the yield of tomatoes, cabbage, cucumbers, zucchini, beans, peas. To feed cucumbers and zucchini, the drug is diluted in the proportion: 2 g per 1.4 liters of water. Plants are sprayed 2 times: at the beginning of flowering and in the midst of flowering. Solution consumption: 600 ml per 10 square meters. Attention! For other crops - their dosages.

In the course of research, it was found that the preparations "Bud" and "Ovary" are safe for bees and humans. And by the time the fruits ripen, the drugs are excreted from the tissues of plants in a natural way.

The drug "Borogum" contains many nutrients, the leading place among which is boron. It contributes to the formation of flowers, ovaries and, as a result, a large number of fruits. We found such an advertisement in one of the summer magazines. We publish this image on the blog not as advertising, but solely for information:

Unpollinated female flowers are also barren

Even if a sufficient number of female flowers have formed on the plants, this does not mean at all that all of them will produce a crop. Unpollinated female flowers are also, in fact, barren flowers. Without pollination, the ovary will not turn into a fruit; unpollinated female flowers will simply fall off.

The first reason why there are many unpollinated female flowers on cucumbers is the erroneous planting of cross-flying varieties intended for open ground in a closed greenhouse. What to do? Open wide the windows and doors to the greenhouse, let in pollinating insects. In a greenhouse, you can try pollinate plants by hand:

Now you understand why there is no cucumber crop in the greenhouse? 😉 You probably planted varieties for open ground in the greenhouse, which should be pollinated by bees (because they have limited access to the greenhouse). For greenhouses, parthenocarpic varieties (which do not require pollination) are more suitable. And if it happened that by mistake a variety for open ground was planted in the greenhouse, pollination can be done manually.

The second reason is that in rainy weather, insects showed low activity, so pollination did not occur. What to do? Again, hand pollination is required.

    We pollinate cucumbers

One male flower is enough to pollinate 4-5 female ones. The male flower is plucked and all the petals are carefully removed from it, trying not to damage the stamens with pollen. It is enough for a male flower to hold several times over a female specimen. You can just put it inside or use a brush.

It is most effective to carry out pollination in the first hours of flowering, when pollen is most viable. Optimum air temperature for pollination: +25 degrees. At high (+30 degrees) and low temperatures (+15 degrees), the properties of pollen are reduced.

In greenhouses, to create air currents, which also contribute to the pollination of female flowers, you can often open windows, doors, and install fans.

    So, empty-flower cucumbers are:

    • empty flowers are those flowers that do not give an ovary,
    • male flowers, which by their nature do not form ovaries, but are necessary only for the pollination of female flowers,
    • female flowers without pollination.

We found out the reasons why cucumbers bloom with an empty flower. And also collected recommendations from various sources about what can be done in this situation. We hope the information was useful for you, we hope for your comments at the end of the article 😉 We will be glad if you share your own experience on the topic! This is important for all of us, gardeners and gardeners of the country.

The cultivation of cucumbers provides for the provision of vegetable culture with heat, light and moisture. But how annoying it is when, with all this, there is no harvest. There are many flowers on the fences, but they turn out to be empty. And it happens because of poor-quality seed material and errors in agricultural technology. Let's try to figure out what to do if there are a lot of empty flowers on cucumbers, and we will analyze in more detail the reasons for their appearance.

    The benefits of cucumbers

Many people mistakenly believe that cucumber is tasty, but in terms of healthy eating, it is useless product. In fact, this is far from the case. Yes, fresh cucumbers do not contain very many vitamins, but they contain many other biologically active substances, thanks to which the cucumber can be safely classified as a dietary product.

The calorie content of cucumber is very low and amounts to only 13.5 kcal per 100.0 g of "emerald vegetable". Therefore, cucumbers can be eaten without any fear by people, even those who follow a very strict diet.

The low calorie content of cucumbers makes this product especially useful in the diet of obese people. Moreover, cucumbers create a feeling of satiety, regulate appetite and improve digestion.

Composition of cucumber: Less than 0.5% of carbohydrates, fats and proteins; 98.5% water, which helps not only to quench thirst, but also cleanses the body of toxic substances; A small amount of vitamins C, PP, E and group B; 1% fiber, which contributes to the normalization of the intestines.

In addition, cucumbers contain a large amount of iodine and potassium, which are easily absorbed by the human body. Therefore, the benefits of cucumbers for people suffering from diseases of the kidneys, thyroid gland and cardiovascular system cannot be overestimated. In addition, cucumbers are a source of various minerals - molybdenum, manganese, copper, zinc, fluorine, chromium, cobalt, aluminum, chlorine, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, iron and sodium. These macro- and microelements are actively involved in various metabolic processes in the human body.

Distinguishing female flowers from male flowers is very simple. Male flowers grow on stalks (which is why they are called barren flowers), and female flowers always have thickenings in the form of small cucumbers.

The reason for the appearance of empty flowers on cucumbers is cold water

Do not forget that this culture comes from their southern regions, and the cold does not benefit it. If the summer turned out to be abnormally cold, whether you like it or not, it will not be easy to get female flowers on cucumbers.

Solution: Stop watering when the air temperature is below 15°C. As we said above, this will stimulate the early formation of female flowers.

The reason for the appearance of barren flowers on cucumbers is the thickening of crops

If you have planted cucumbers too densely, do not be surprised at the large number of empty flowers. If the plants in the garden are crowded, this affects their development: they grow slowly, and female flowers may not appear. In addition, even with the appearance of flowers with an ovary, it is too early to breathe a sigh of relief - the thickening of the crops can prevent pollination.

Solution: Compliance with the cucumber planting scheme (25 × 25 cm). If the plants are already planted in the ground, it remains only to “clear” the space between shoots as much as possible. To do this, pinch the main lash of seedlings. This will stop overgrowth and stimulate the appearance of female flowers.

The reason for the appearance of empty flowers on cucumbers is poor lighting of cucumbers

Cucumber beds should not be made in shaded places - light is vital for this plant. The formation of an empty flower on cucumbers can also be associated with too dense crops, when the plant receives less light due to the shade from its own lush leaves and lashes.

The reason for the appearance of empty flowers on cucumbers is the wrong subcortex

To get a good harvest, it is important to know all the features regarding crop fertilization.

When only male inflorescences appear, this may indicate a phenomenon such as fattening. For example, a crop receives a large amount of nitrogen fertilizers, while potassium and phosphorus are not enough. It is important to balance feeding.

The first fertilizer is applied when the first leaves appear on the bushes. Complex compositions with a high nitrogen content or organic fertilizers are used. The second dressing before flowering is complex fertilizers and wood ash. The third is a solution of nitrophoska.

Another reason is the lack of carbon dioxide. It is important for the emergence of female inflorescences. To solve this problem, you can put containers with manure and mullein in the greenhouse, diluted with water, carbon dioxide is released during fermentation.

How to prepare bait to lure bees to cucumbers

A fragrant and sweet solution does not need much, but it is necessary to spray at least every other day, and if the sweetness is washed off by rain, then spraying must be repeated.

The water is heated to a temperature of 50-60 ᵒC, and a teaspoon of honey or a tablespoon of sugar is dissolved in one liter of water.

While dissolution is being carried out and pouring into the spray gun, the liquid is cooled, but remains warm, and warm solutions transmit odors better.

Spraying should be carried out early in the morning so that the bees have enough time to fly around all the flowers.

The people have learned to replace bees in matters of pollination. If the weather is cloudy, the bee does not fly, and the cucumbers bloom, then they need help.

Pick a male flower, first touching it with your finger to see if there is pollen on it, tear off the petals and bring the flower, lightly touching the female flowers of the cucumber. One male flower will be quite enough for 17-20 female ones. Even better, if you pull the male flower from another variety.

You can not pick flowers and not look closely at the flowers, but just take a brush and lightly smear all the flowers in a row, either male or female, indiscriminately.

This work is painstaking, but quite effective.

How to deal with empty flowers on cucumbers

However, sometimes even when these commandments are fulfilled, cucumbers still form many unfruitful flowers. In such cases, it is necessary to force the plants to change the direction of development they have adopted, to excite the ability to form female flowers, for which pinch off the tops above the 5-6th leaf, and if this moment is missed, do this, regardless of the number of already formed leaves. After such an operation, Zelentsy will soon appear on the lashes. The secret of this metamorphosis is simple. After all, female fruit-bearing flowers open on the cucumber lash only on lateral shoots, while pinching the top causes the plant to branch.

By short-term drying of the soil, the formation of ovaries can be increased, and when the plant wilts slightly, irrigation should be resumed. Cucumbers, having become a little sick, increase the number of female flowers, as the law of nature works: to flourish and give offspring. At this moment, it is necessary to sprinkle the lashes with earth, fertilize with a solution of fresh mullein (1 kg per 10 liters of water) and pour at the rate of 1 cup of the mixture per bush.

With proper care, you are sure to get a rich harvest of cucumbers. Therefore, it is necessary to know in advance the reasons for the appearance of barren flowers and when to start sounding the alarm.

Very often, gardeners ask: "Why are there a lot of empty flowers on cucumbers? Why do plants continuously bloom only with empty flowers? And who will need these empty flowers?"

Of course, the quality of the seeds plays a significant role in the colossal delay in the formation of female flowers and late fruiting. If you do not listen to the numerous recommendations and sow fresh seeds, then plants will grow from them. But what? First, (empty flowers) are formed, and only then will female ones appear. A completely different picture can be obtained if you sow seeds two or three years ago. In this case, female flowers will form simultaneously with male ones.

No one likes to grow empty cucumbers. What to do about this phenomenon? First, we will find out what to do if the seeds are fresh, and their statute of limitations is unknown. It's easy enough to clear things up. Seeds need to be warmed up. Plants grown from such seeds will give a female color much earlier than the due date. The hardening of seeds with variable or negative temperatures before sowing will also help to hasten the appearance of these flowers.

And why does the empty flower appear on cucumbers? The second reason for cucumber "infertility" is a violation of a balanced diet. Very often this is facilitated by the presence of a large amount of nitrogen fertilizers in the soil. It is this nuance that causes the frantic growth of lashes, barren flowers and leaves. In this case, the plants are fertilized with useful top dressing. As a rule, these are fast-acting, for example, an extract of superphosphate or an infusion of ordinary wood ash. The superphosphate extract is prepared from ten liters of hot water and two tablespoons of top dressing.

Oh, those cucumbers are empty flowers! What to do if they appeared? Look for reasons - that's what you need to do! After all, the third reason for the belated appearance of the female color is watering the plants with icy water. Its temperature should not be lower than 25 degrees. It is impossible with water that is colder than the soil.

The next reason for the appearance of a barren flower is an excess of moisture in the ground. Cucumber beds should not be watered for several days. The earth will dry out, and the leaves on the plants will wilt. And then an abundance of female flowers will instantly appear. But you need to remember - you can not overdry the soil either.

If empty cucumbers appeared, not everyone knows what to do. But here is another reason for this phenomenon. Hot air, strong density of plants in a greenhouse, and so on, have a serious effect on the appearance of a barren flower.

Well, what if the empty-flowered cucumbers did grow? What to do with them? Some gardeners remove most empty flowers. They mistakenly hope that this will accelerate the development of the female color. Gardeners will not get any benefit from their removal. They will only worsen the conditions for pollination of inflorescences. In fact, cucumber empty flowers themselves quickly turn yellow and fall off.

How to get rid of empty flowers on cucumbers?
To begin with, let's try to find out why this empty flower appears on cucumbers at all. It is quite possible that the reason lies in the wrong choice of the cucumber seeds themselves, when it happens that female flowers on cucumbers appear with a serious delay, and accordingly, fruiting can also be greatly delayed.

If you simply ignored numerous useful tips and recommendations and nevertheless sowed cucumber seeds in your garden or in the greenhouse, they are still quite fresh, then plants usually grow quite powerful from them. But, at the same time, on such powerful plants, a lot of male flowers very quickly appear, that is, it is empty flowers, and only then female flowers begin to slowly form.
The picture will look completely different if you sowed cucumber seeds not fresh, but those that are already two or three years old. Such seeds usually ensure the appearance of female flowers almost simultaneously with male flowers, and sometimes even earlier. All this should certainly be taken into account when in the spring, you will plant cucumber seeds, if you do not want problems with empty flowers on them in the future.
Of course, the problem of the appearance of barren flowers and the lack of female flowers is not only due to the wrong choice of seeds. There are other reasons for this as well. For example, nitrogen fertilizers, which may be too much in the soil under cucumbers. Such fertilizers, again, only contribute to the growth of powerful lashes in cucumbers and the formation of barren flowers. If you overfed your cucumbers with such nitrogen fertilizers, then the situation needs to be corrected.
And it is corrected by the introduction of fertilizers again, but not nitrogen, but fast-acting phosphorus. Here, the simplest option is wood ash, from which an ordinary infusion is prepared, or you can use an extract of the same superphosphate for this (we take 2 tablespoons of it and dilute it in 10 liters of plain water).
If you water cucumbers with rather cold water, then most likely this is also one of the reasons why the appearance of female flowers is greatly delayed on them. Cucumbers should be watered only with warm enough water, that is, its temperature should be at least 25 degrees, but not lower. It is also essential that the water during irrigation be at a temperature higher than the temperature of the soil itself under the cucumbers.
There can be many empty flowers on cucumbers if the soil is extremely moist. You will need to dry it in the garden. Female flowers usually begin to appear when the leaves on the cucumbers begin to wilt a little. Here, of course, you need to be careful not to overdry the plants during such drying, otherwise you will not get flowers.
It is possible that this procedure will not help, then you will need to pinch the top of the main stem of the plant itself. At the same time, you should not pay attention to the number of leaves on it. Thus, you will significantly stop the growth of the lash itself, and this will significantly accelerate the development of shoots in the axils and the appearance of female flowers on the plant, and then the ovaries.
Empty flower on cucumbers with errors in pollination.
Quite often, gardeners simply remove all (without any exception) male barren flowers. With such a distance, they, of course, hope that only female flowers will immediately begin to develop, and there it is not far before the appearance of the ovaries. But, by removing male flowers, you will not gain anything. And in general, at the same time, you simply significantly worsen the possibility of pollination of female flowers. If there are empty flowers on the cucumbers, then they themselves will turn yellow (you do not need to touch them), and then they will fall off.
If we talk about empty flowers in greenhouses, it often happens that cucumbers grow just fine there. The whips, while quite large, the leaves on them are large, many female flowers, but for some reason there is no sense from this, that is, the ovaries appear quite badly. What do they lack? But what they lack is just successful pollination.
There are varieties of cucumbers that are called the compound word parthenocarpic (hard to pronounce, isn't it?) And hybrids. It is these varieties that “acquire” fruits on their own, that is, without any participation of insects in this. But, nevertheless, there are much more varieties of cucumbers and the same hybrids that are bee-pollinated.
If pollination still did not occur in such varieties, then nothing good should be expected. The ovaries on them can hang for 3 or even 5 days, but then, they will still turn yellow and will surely fall off after that. Growing such varieties of cucumbers, you need to have bees somewhere nearby, or you must open a greenhouse. If your greenhouse is open, then insects fly into it simply by captivity, and will do their job.
But, the owners also need to help the cucumbers during pollination. That is, this process can be carried out artificially, and the most suitable time for this is from 9 am to 12 noon. Working "as a bee", you must know how to properly pollinate cucumbers. To do this, you will need to pick a male flower and cut off all the petals on this flower. Then the pollen on such a flower must be checked for its quality. This is done quite simply, you touch the very tips of the stamens with the back of your hand.
Next, look at the pollen on your hand. If it is well smeared, then this means that it is already completely ready for pollination. After such a check, you already take a male flower and put it into a female one, while the pollen that is on the stamens of the male flower must necessarily fall on the stigma of the female flower. The most optimal option when carrying out such manual pollination is to touch the female flower not with one male flower, but with two or three.
You can involve bees in this process in the same greenhouse. To do this, you need to put attractive bunches of flowering dandelion in it, or the same bunches of many summer onions. You can also attract bees to a greenhouse with cucumbers and honey. Of course, not in its pure form, but with a weak honey solution. This solution just needs to be sprayed on the plants. But honey poured directly into a saucer or other utensils does not need to be placed in a greenhouse at all. This plate of honey won't help the pollination process. In this case, the bees will simply “take away” the honey with gratitude, but they will not work with the flowers themselves on the cucumbers at all.
There are ovaries on cucumbers, but they do not grow.
This also happens very often, especially if the weather is quite hot and your cucumbers grow in a film greenhouse. In this case, the ovaries seem to have successfully formed, but that's where it ends. They simply do not grow, and a little later they generally begin to slowly turn yellow, and then dry up sharply and as a result simply fall off. Why is this happening?
Here the reason is very simple, in such ovaries the process of fertilization simply did not occur. Usually this cannot be explained by one single reason. This may be due to the elementary heat in your greenhouse, that is, the temperature there was kept above 35 degrees. This is overkill! It is quite possible that the humidity also “went off scale”, that is, it went even beyond 90 percent. Maybe your cucumbers just haven't been visited by insects because of bad (usually rainy and rather cool) weather. You could not provide your cucumbers with good nutrition, that is, you did not fertilize the soil, and this just seriously affects hybrids that have bunch fruiting, and many modern varieties.
Of course, some ovaries will still develop, but there are very few of them, usually only a couple of pieces. The rest simply dry up and eventually fall to the ground. If the plant itself is not distinguished by special health, and there are a lot of ovaries on it, then it must be helped. Your task is to feed him so that he gains strength. It is best to use an infusion of mullein for this, where urea is also added.

It provides for the provision of vegetable culture with heat, light and moisture.

In fact, for full development and fruiting, cucumbers must have both male and female flowers equally. Their presence is important for fertilization. If only one or the other prevails on the stems, pollination will not occur. Therefore, there is no need to interfere without reason in the process of plant vegetation.

Did you know? Cucumber, whose homeland is India, has existed for about 6 thousand years.

    When to sound the alarm

We remember from school botany lessons that cucumbers with female flowers are distinguished by the presence of a mother liquor. If you look closely, among the yellow petals you can see a small continuation of the flower in the form of a green cylinder, which resembles a small cucumber.

It is here that the formation of the ovary takes place. Pollination is done with the help of insects that carry pollen from male buds, although recently breeders have created a lot.

Let's consider how to distinguish an empty flower in cucumbers. empty flowers -male flowers, without which the ovary of cucumber fruits is impossible. They are determined by the absence of a mother liquor and the presence of anthers. They are called empty flowers. If such flowers appear one after another on the fences, and there are no fertile ones, take urgent measures, otherwise yours will be barren.

There are many ways to solve this problem, but in order to determine which one is suitable in a particular case, you first need to find out the cause.

Important! The appearance of female flowers on different varieties of cucumbers provokes the heating of fresh seeds on a battery or in a thermostat.

    Reasons for the appearance

Perhaps the root cause of cucumber infertility is the seed material. It is known that seed should be sown, which has rested for 2-3 years. Then the inflorescences of the female and male type appear simultaneously and in almost equal quantities. But if you have not heeded these recommendations and are sprouting fresh seeds, do not ask why your cucumbers have solid empty flowers.

When everything is fine with the seeds, but there is no harvest, look for the mistakes that you made in caring for the plants. Consider the most common of them.

    Crop density

This problem is more common when growing a vegetable crop in areas where there is not enough space for all the planned crops. As a result, in order to save space, the gardener makes too dense sowing.

When asked why only empty flowers appear on cucumbers, Elena Lazareva, Ph.D.

According to her, the landing scheme must clearly comply with the following standards:

    • row spacing - 70 cm;
    • distance between plants - 20-25 cm.
The scientist noted that there should be no more than seven plants per 1 m 2 of the garden. If we are talking about large-scale crops in the fields, then there are up to 70 thousand crops per 1 ha.

Ignoring these requirements leads to very dense seedlings that are unable to fully develop. The flowers that appeared on them soon wither and fall off without an ovary formed, which means the complete absence of the female type of flowering.

Did you know? People who regularly consume fresh cucumbers thus normalize the functioning of the thyroid gland and cleanse the walls of blood vessels from cholesterol..

    Watering errors

It would seem that moisture-loving plants regularly receive the necessary water rate, other requirements are also met on time, all conditions for fruiting have been created. But a lot of empty flowers on cucumbers are a sign that you are doing something wrong.

In cases with irrigation, all errors are reduced to the temperature of the water poured under the vegetable crop. Ideally, it should be warm (22 to 25 ºС). This recommendation is especially important during the formation period. Water for irrigation should always be collected in large containers for settling and heating.

But if you strictly observe this condition, then why do cucumbers bloom with an empty flower and what are you doing wrong this time, experienced summer residents say. According to them, regular watering of cucumbers is useless. It should be carried out systematically and plentifully only before flowering and during the fruiting period. When the vines begin to bloom, they are not moistened at all. This is done in order to create an artificial extreme culture.

According to the laws of nature, finding themselves in such conditions, cucumbers throw all their strength into leaving offspring. As a result, female and male buds appear on the fences. When the soil begins to dry out and the leaves droop slightly, you need to renew by doubling the amount of water.

Important! When the outside temperature does not rise above 16° WITH, cucumbers do not need to be watered, otherwise the plants will be barren.

    lack of lighting

The explanation for the fact why empty cucumbers grow is that culture doesn't get enough light. There are also cases on the open ground, when the wattle fences are shaded by tall neighbors. Of course, their presence is important, because cucumbers do not like drafts and cold.

They need a specific humid microclimate in a cozy place. Therefore, when planning a planting in the garden, it is important to consider that other plants do not create a shadow for light-loving cucumbers. , and other cultures are best placed on the north side.

If you notice empty flowers on cucumbers, do not rush to cut them off. First, they must fulfill their function in pollination. And secondly, after the fertilization of the female flowers, the male ones will wither and fall off themselves.

In cases where the ovary is not formed, experts advise paying attention to , temperature regime, planting site and culture. And now, in order, we will understand why cucumbers bloom only with empty flowers and what to do in such situations.

Agronomists believe that barren flowers are the result of an incorrectly chosen place for. The planned bed should not be located on a hill where it is too hot and dry, or in low-lying areas where cold air collects. As already mentioned, nothing should obscure the culture.

Important! A cucumber will grow and survive better if you pull twine over the posts in the garden and make a trellis for it. The plant will curl, while it is provided with ventilation of the stems and foliage, access to light and. In addition, flowerswill not get dirty, butthe harvest will be easier to harvest.

The next important aspect for fruiting is unbalanced plants. Elena Lazareva, Candidate of Agricultural Sciences, tells about what to do if the reason for empty-flowered cucumbers lies precisely in this.

According to her, an excess of nitrogen provokes fattening of the lashes, foliage, antennae, flowers grow, but there are no fruits. Therefore, do not overdo it with, because cucumbers do not need to build up biomass for decoration, you are interested in collecting generous and,.
