    Graduation at Sunday School.

4 years of study passed unnoticed. Sunday school is a place for spiritual education and development. During these years of training, our teachers taught us kindness, attention to people, we studied the Old and New Testaments, and most importantly, we learned to love God and the Church of Christ. But we not only studied, we had joint holidays, unforgettable trips to the Holy Places. We attended church services, participated in ordinances, took part in all orthodox holidays and festivals, won prizes in competitions. We felt like one family.

The graduation party is the result of our training, it was held in a festive atmosphere. We have heard many warm words and wishes from Abbot Amfilochiy, teachers, junior comrades. Batiushka presented certificates and letters of thanks, presented the graduates and teachers with the New Testament. We were very pleased and happy. All together recalled the happiest moments, looking at the photos on the big screen.

The graduation party ended with a festive tea party. Such events unite and help to remember all the good things that have been experienced together.

Graduation in our Sunday school has become a memory, joy, a hymn of love, kindness, gratitude to the Lord God.

Sunday schools are a stepping stone to God

To go up the stairs to the sky -

Look at yourself repentantly and sternly,

And those who are around cannot be judged for their sins.

    Sunday School Graduate Queen Valentine

The last bell rang not only in ordinary schools, but also in the Dobrynyushka Sunday school at the Verkhotursky St. Nicholas Monastery. The children learned a lot of new and interesting things within the walls of this school over the past year. Many events took place: Christmas, Easter, Presentation week, Mother's Day, Victory Day; participation in exhibitions, in the scientific-practical conference "Family - past, present, future", took place a trip to the diocesan theological conference. All holidays and events were held thanks to the efforts of the teaching staff under the leadership of the young school director Dedova Alena.
I would also like to note the pupils of the Sunday School of the Bezdenezhnykh, Ekaterina and Lyubimova Olga, who adequately represented the Sunday School at the XV Diocesan Theological Conference and actively participated in the life of the school, not missing events and helping the school principal. Demin Ivan also distinguished himself, who did not lag behind the girls and adequately defended the honor of the school. At the last line, a thanksgiving service to the Lord was served, many children were awarded certificates for their active participation in the life of the school and success in their studies. After tea drinking all children were presented with soft toys.
I would like to express special gratitude to the headmaster of the school Alena Dedova. As an assistant to the Dean for missionary work with youth, she organizes interesting youth activities that all teenagers remember with gratitude. Creative evenings, rope course, campfire evenings attracted many young people and will remain in their memory for a long time. Also, through the efforts of Alena Dedova, such circles as learning to play the guitar, photography, singing (church and folk) and a sports club were organized.
A historic event took place at Sunday School this year. For the first time, in all the years of existence of Sunday schools in Verkhoturye, the first graduation took place. Unfortunately, only one graduate received a school leaving certificate. I became this graduate - Maslova Maria. With God's help and the kind preparation of my mentors, Svetlana Maslova and Alena Dedova, I managed to get a certificate of distinction. The exam included questions on such disciplines as the Old Testament, the New Testament, the Catechism, knowledge of prayers, the organization of the temple, fasting and holidays, reading in the Church Slavonic language. The examination committee chaired by the school's confessor, Hieromonk Simeon (Tsarev), congratulated me on the excellent graduation from school and presented me with gifts.
I am grateful to Abbot Lavr for the existence of the school, and to the teaching staff for the contribution they made to the development of Sunday School students. I hope that my graduation will not be the last one within the walls of this school, and that the knowledge gained will help me along the way. I wish all the pupils of the school to successfully complete it, and I also invite parents to bring their children to our school, because here they teach only goodness.
    Maria Maslova.

Church Slavonic language. Namewords. Workbook.Svirepova O.V., Zakharova L.A.,Methodical development for the 4th grade of the Sunday School, for children 10-11 years old. Pushchino, 2010

The lessons are based on the book by N.P. Sablina “Slavic initial letter. Poetic history of the alphabet with the basics of Church Slavonic literacy ”. The author herself characterized her book as a collection of “popular science stories about the Letter in the Spirit: about the honorable external beauty of each letter, or its image; about the spiritual and mystical essence of the alphabet and the symbolism of letter names. "

The compilers tried to fulfill the manual in the same way. Each sheet of the workbook is dedicated to one letter, a story about its name, origin. Also on the sheet dedicated to the letter, there are words beginning with it under titles, names and their meanings, a short dictionary of frequently encountered words, an icon of the Virgin, whose name begins with this letter, an icon of a saint, riddles. Half of the sheet is taken up by writing. The sheet is decorated with ornaments and all sorts of options for initial letters, but there is also a place for the student himself to draw a beautiful initial letter.

Children don't always want to learn, children don't always want to go to school. Even on Sunday. A good teacher tries not only to teach a lesson in an interesting way, but also to encourage children. Encourage them to come to Sunday School on time and encourage them to listen to and memorize Bible events.

    Caterpillar (toddler reward)

This method of encouraging attendance is for the little ones. If your Sunday school kids use exercise books, you can use this method.

At the beginning of the school year or when starting a new notebook, give all the children a small circle of colored paper with eyes and a mouth. This will be the head of the caterpillar. If your children already know how to draw, then they can draw their eyes and mouth themselves. Let each child glue this circle into their notebook on the first page. When the children come to the next lesson, then again give them one colored circle. And let them glue it back into their notebook next to the first. Do this in every lesson. For one visit, the child receives one circle. His notebook should have a caterpillar.

Tip: When you give out circles, then give out circles of the same color in one lesson, otherwise the children may not share them among themselves.

    Little train (rewarding kids)

How do you encourage children to attend Sunday school? Here's one tip. You will need a large board or a piece of Whatman paper. Stick a little train on the left side of the board for each child. When a boy or a girl comes to class, then one trailer is added to their train. Thus, after a few sessions, it will be a whole train. The competition is which train is longer (i.e. who has more carriages).
The peculiarity of this method is that children do not need to count (especially if they cannot yet). They can compare their trains in length, because they are located on the board below each other. And to distinguish between trains, you can glue small photographs of children into the window of the locomotive (that is, on each train there is a photograph of the child-owner).

Crown (encouraging attendance and lesson participation)

If you want to encourage your students to not only attend Sunday school, but also to participate in the lesson, then this way of encouragement is for you. If you are studying the books of Kings, and several Bible lessons focus on the stories of David, Saul, and Solomon, then this method is perfect.

Give each child a colored cardboard crown. Older children can make their own crowns in the lesson using your templates. Sign each crown with (baby's name). Give the children one “precious” stone for each lesson. Such "pebbles" can be cut out of gold, foil, or you can paint some small flat objects, such as buttons, with golden car paint from a spray can. For special participation in the lesson, you can give out additional stones of a different color. At the end of each lesson, the child himself glues the received pebble to his crown. By the end of some period, children will have their own decorated crowns, which they, of course, will try on their heads. In the last lesson, you can summarize: who has what crown, who received stones for what, etc. Take a shared photo of your "kings" and give the crowns to the owners! Until the crowns are ready, it is recommended to leave them with the teacher.

A face instead of a clock (how to deal with being late for lessons)

How do I keep my kids on track for Sunday School?

On the door of the Sunday school classroom, hang a smiling face (as in the picture on the right) before class begins. As soon as the hour of the beginning of the lesson has struck, turn it over to the other side, on which a sad face should be depicted. The child, coming to the lesson, will know for sure if he is late. To everyone who came on time, at the very beginning of the lesson, give out a piece of candy (some kind of stimulus). Children who are late do not receive sweets.

    Collect the snowman

In this way, the Sunday school teacher can encourage attendance. The idea is especially good for toddlers who don't know how to count yet, but it can also be applied to younger students.

This reward method is best used in winter. Its essence is simple - you need to collect a snowman. When attending each lesson, the child receives one piece of a snowman cut out of cardboard: first one circle, then the second, third, broom, hat, carrot, etc. Children can stick a snowman in their notebook, or allocate space for each child on the class wall (remember to write the name of the baby).
