Factorio games. Interesting study Factorio: plant simulator

Factorio is a great game that proved to everyone that graphics are not the most important thing in games. Before you is a huge 2D sandbox in which you will explore an entire planet for its further development. Your skillful economic management will turn the new planet into an industrial colony. All stages of production, from the search and extraction of resources to the intricate organization of logistics, are under your guidance. When you have one plant - everything is simple, but when you have a whole planet of complex enterprises - this is where your brain begins to boil. Create automated factories for the production of everything you need. If at first you do everything manually, then after, each process must be automated - this is the key moment of the game.

    Factorio review. Concept

At first sight Factorio very similar to a recently released game Unclaimed World... There are quite a few similarities in terms of the concept. Also survival on an unfamiliar planet, also production, also extraction of resources, also encounters with local “inhabitants”. In general, it would seem that full-fledged photocopying is on the face. However, the game Factorio that you are currently reading is not what it seems at first glance. Contrary to all the similarities that I have listed above and which, in fairness, are not rare at all in a very large number of projects, Factorio is just as much different from Unclaimed World, as much as the political regime in the Russian Federation is not similar to democracy, so that you understand ... In addition to the absolute gameplay difference and just an obscene difference in the quality of the implementation of the idea, which will be discussed below, Factorio has a banal genre. I will tell you about this in more detail in the next paragraph.

    Gameplay

I know it's pretty hard to believe, especially if you've seen the screenshots or the trailer above, but Factorio Is not a strategy. More precisely - not quite a strategy in the usual understanding of this term. Elements of the genre strategy there is and this is a fairly weighty part of the gameplay of the game, but at the same time we do not play in god mode, as is usually the case in strategies. We do not instantly transfer from one part of the map to another, giving out many different orders to our units. And we cannot even perform any actions if we are not in close proximity to an object or structure. And there is no one at all to give orders, since the only unit in the game that we can control is our main character and we control him literally - with the WASD keys. At the same time, we will have to fight off the insects flying at us just like the recently released one - that is, in the style of a top-down shooter. As you can imagine, this no longer fits into the canvas of a classic strategy. However, that's why I like Factorio. Including for this, of course.

With features gameplay game We figured out Factorio, so let's now move on to the main part of it, which, to be honest, is also not so simple. How is the process of extracting resources usually carried out in strategies? There are two options - either we just build something and it provides us with resources or produces the things we need automatically, or we send workers there even before the heap. Both of these options have nothing to do with our game. At Factorio, our task is to build and, what is much more difficult, to debug an automated production cycle that will not require our participation or will be, but minimal. How it works? Imagine that you suddenly really wanted iron... Maybe add to the tea, or maybe you are building a large statue of Superman out of iron - it doesn't matter. You just need iron - the soul asks for iron. To do this, we first build an iron-mining machine that will not work without coal. Therefore, before that we need to establish coal production. To do this, we need to put a coal mining machine, which, in turn, will leave everything mined right on the ground. Therefore, we need to organize the delivery of coal to the point we need by means of special conveyor paths and an automated hand that will transfer coal to wooden boxes. And you have to build all this by hand. I have just described the most primitive cycle in the game - there is nothing simpler here. And Factorio's game will present such problems to you in such quantity that I personally thought about changing thermal paste on its central processing unit. And now I'm not talking about a PC, but about the contents of my skull - overheating in those over 3 hours that I spent in the game was very, very decent. Perhaps I just lost the habit of such games.

    Graphics, sound and optimization

What pleased me was optimization... With a pretty decent picture, the game works so fast that I realized for sure that it was not made on Unity. Perhaps the only thing that bothers me about the visual component is the interface. It still looks somewhat clumsy and, which is much more critical, in my opinion, cumbersome. The sounds are already there and they did not cause any complaints from me - however, as well as enthusiasm. But usually you don't expect any revelations from sounds. But there is not much music yet. In principle, it is not yet in the game, and because of this, the gameplay seems a little empty. However, it's high time to say that the game is in Early Access, so all of this will certainly be.

    What's the bottom line?

It is somehow not very correct to sum up the results of the game, which will change a million times before the full release, so the results here will be intermediate and the assessment, accordingly, it is quite possible that it will change in one direction or another. At the time of this writing, Factorio has not even become available for purchase in the Steam library yet, but it is absolutely ready to be played. There are no bugs that break the gameplay in the game. The mechanics are perfect, but she herself requires a remarkable mind and ingenuity from the player. Therefore, if you suddenly do not like to think, then bypass this game by the side. If smart and complex games are your topic, then here you will find entertainment for yourself for more than one evening.
