World Poetry Day. World poetry day 21 March international poetry day

World Poetry Day is celebrated annually on March 21st. Poetry is probably one of the most brilliant achievements of mankind. Pouring out your feelings in poetic form, imprinting your worldview in rhyme, dreaming about the future and remembering the past, while simultaneously addressing millions and remaining alone with yourself - only poetry, the greatest of the arts created by man, is capable of this.

Not many become great and famous poets, but many have tried to write poetry at least once in their lives. After all, the majority of people are far from alien to those “beautiful impulses of the soul” that induce a person to take a pen, a piece of paper and start creating. Write poetry without thinking about fame and immortality. After all, even a small, unknown poem written by a child is also a huge spiritual contribution to the cultural and intellectual prosperity of the entire society.

    History of World Poetry Day

For the first time, the American poetess Tesa Webb came up with the initiative to establish the holiday back in the mid-30s of the 20th century. She proposed celebrating the International Day of Poetry on October 15, in honor of the date of birth of the famous poet and philosopher Virgil. It should be noted that her proposal found a positive response in the hearts of many people: by 1951, October 15, National Poetry Day was celebrated not only in 38 US states, but also in European countries. The celebrations were unofficial, and the date of their holding was not recorded in the calendar of memorable days.

Only on November 15, 1999, UNESCO, at the 30th conference, adopted a resolution on the establishment of an international day, which was to “breathe a second life” into the world poetry movement. For the first time, the holiday was celebrated on March 21 in 2000, in Paris, where the headquarters of UNESCO is located. The main goal of the International Day of Poetry was to emphasize the great importance that literature plays in the cultural life of modern society, to unite poets from all over the world and give them the right and opportunity to declare themselves!

Traditions of World Poetry Day in the world and in Russia

Despite the fact that World Poetry Day is a young holiday, it is celebrated quite widely both in the USA and in Europe, and, of course, in Russia. On this day, it is customary to arrange evenings in literary clubs, meetings with readers, to which both venerable and novice poets come. The holiday is solemnly celebrated not only by poets and their readers, but also by philological faculties of higher educational institutions, many schools, publishing houses of literary magazines, almanacs and newspapers.

Imagine our life without poetry ... Without congratulations for the holidays, without songs, without Pushkin, Lermontov, Shakespeare, contemporary authors…. It will be a boring life without an explosion of emotions expressed in simple letters on paper, without that little mysticism when the same words, but written in a certain order, can touch you to tears or leave you completely indifferent. The power of the word has a special energy that carries along and subjugates our imagination. In order to draw public attention to poetry as a source of answers to many questions of mankind, as an art fully open to people, at the 30th session of UNESCO in 1999, it was decided to celebrate World Poetry Day on March 21 every year. On this day, courses of lectures, author's readings, presentation of new poetic literature are held all over the world.

    Happy Poetry Day,
    Sometimes a little sad
    But always unique
    And originally immortal!

Let the poetry excite the soul
    Make you smile
    Become broader and better
To plunge into a wonderful world!

    On Poetry Day I wish
    Inspiration and dreams!
I send you a ray of happiness
And the radiance of bright stars!

    Let poetry give you
    Many sweet minutes.
    Let it invigorate and inspire
    Pointing the route to goodness!

To the poets of the world - to the nightingales of love,
To those who weave wreaths from ordinary words,
    You bless their souls, Lord,
    Add some gentle, poetic talents!

Give them happiness, joy, and peace
Leave for those who peacefully plow the land,
The poets of the world will all be with You,
Having drunk the power of the Divine cup!

Let the sun shine on you, the thunder roars,
Everything in the world is sweet to the poet's soul,
    Great success flies towards you,
So that the soul aches with happiness!

    All poets, poetesses
    Today I want to congratulate
    Wish you inspiration,
    Loud your talent to glorify.

    Let the rhymed lines
They are born from the soul
    Let your poems always
    People really like it.

Let the muse come in more often
    May she live with you
    Let him throw up thoughts
So that the eyes burn with excitement.

    Poetry is really beautiful
    All phrases are harmoniously woven!
Poetry, like the sun, shines clearly
So that the souls of people become clear!

    Let poetry awaken in everyone
    Emotions exciting cocktail,
And the one who reads it thoughtfully,
Understand what the author set a goal!

    Poetry sometimes takes the soul,
So much so that prose will not take in life,
Throws out of the heat and immediately into the cold,
After all, it is in poetry that the soul lives!

    Happy poetry day worldwide
    I congratulate you today,
    Heart beats in rapture
Let it be from poetic phrases.

The lines of lyrics are beautiful
    Let your soul disturb you
    Treating experiences
    All misfortunes and dramas.

    For poetry a minute
    Let it be sometimes
Beckons to the world of beautiful poetry
Let her be her own line.

There is tenderness and pressure in her,
    Strength and Expression.
    You can't live without her,
    After all, she is poetry.

    Happy poetry day today
    My congratulations.
    More magic lyrics
    I sincerely wish.

    Let the rhymed lines
    The soul is subtly touched
May the sorrow and all the problems
They will drown in the lines of those.

    Who is poetry
    Does not know,
    Beauty
    Does not understand.
    Happy poetry day to you
    Congratulations we,
    Loving!

    What decorates this boring world?
What makes him kinder for a moment?
Just a light weave of rhymes
It will gently warm hearts and souls!

I wish you bright dreams on Poetry Day,
    To bring inspiration and joy,
And so that faith, tenderness and love
They kept you from all the vanities of the world!

So sometimes it hurts to be
Taking phrases from the heart ...
Unwittingly to be responsible for everything
Yes, passing everywhere along the edge,
The world is reasonable, but stingy in soul,
And feelings are in short supply.
After all, indifference is a great evil,
    We need protection again!
    When love comes to victory
... and the day of poetry will begin
All the neighbors will become relatives
All of a sudden youth will return!

The most ancient poems, according to historians, were written in the 23rd century BC. They were created by Princess En-hedu-ana and the find is confirmed by artifacts. The princess is the earliest author known by name, as well as the first poet. She was the daughter of the founder of the Akkadian kingdom - King Sargon, and is known for the Sumerian hymns.

It is known that the first dictionaries of rhymes appeared in the Middle Ages. It is interesting that, for example, the entire Qur'an is built on rhymes. And the first who compared the cheeks of a young girl with a rose was a poet, as Salvador Dali once said.

In 1999, at the 30th session of the General Conference of UNESCO, it was decided to celebrate World Poetry Day on March 21. The first holiday - World Poetry Day - was celebrated in Paris, where the headquarters of UNESCO is located.

“Poetry,” the UNESCO decision says, “can be an answer to the most acute and deep spiritual questions of modern man, but for this it is necessary to draw the widest possible public attention to it. In addition, the World Poetry Day should give an opportunity to make themselves known more widely for small publishers, whose efforts mainly reach the readers of the works of modern poets, literary clubs reviving the age-old tradition of the living poetic word. "

It has become a good tradition on this day to hold various events, celebrations and new competitions, to present rising poetic talents and their creative works of authorship, to organize evenings for friends of art. The poem makes our culture immeasurably richer and more representative. The brightest works, treasures of the heart, rightfully open up the opportunity to fully experience the uniqueness of the invisible flight of the human soul, to touch the greatest history of each of us, because each look is beautiful and unique in its own way. It allows you to donate not only beautiful poetic forms of words, rhymes, but also a significant part of life, contributing to our own development.

If you are not indifferent to poetry - accept our congratulations on this day! If you are a poet, then this date is your worldwide professional holiday. Happy holiday to you and us, we wish you all poetry!

Few people in their life have tried to write poetry, therefore World Poetry Day can be considered a national holiday. Poetry is a truly ingenious invention of mankind, since it is easiest to express emotions overwhelming the soul in rhymed lines. In poetry, poets dream of a wonderful future and remember the heroic past, devote lines to one particular person and appeal to all of humanity.

Of course, not everyone is given the talent to write genius poems, but even if primitive, but necessarily sincere lines in a period of emotional upsurge are written by almost everyone. And this is wonderful, even if no one sees a simple poem except its author, even in this case, it will become a contribution to the spiritual prosperity of mankind.

    History of appearance

The history of the holiday is interesting. Unofficially, they began to celebrate it back in the thirties of the last century in the United States. An American poetess named Tesa Webb was the initiator of the organization of the Day, uniting poets and poetry lovers.

For many years the holiday fell on October 15th. The date was chosen in honor of the birthday of Virgil, the famous philosopher and poet.

At the very end of the 20th century, at the initiative of UNESCO, it was decided to give the holiday an official status. This was done to revive and inspire the international poetry movement for "new feats". The holiday was celebrated for the first time in official status March 21 2000 and since then, this date has become a generally recognized international holiday dedicated to poetry.

On the role of poetry in the life of society

The word "poetry" is of Greek origin. It can be translated as "creation", "creation". Indeed, any poem is a work created due to the emotions of the imagination and the spiritual strength of the poet.

You can write poetry only in a special state of mind, when it is easy to see the sublime behind the routine. It's not for nothing that people often add their first rhymes during the period of falling in love.

Good poetry has a special energy. They make the listener or reader experience those feelings and experience those emotions that the author puts into them. That is why good poetry always gives rise to a special feeling in the soul.

Of course, not every poet has great talent. Geniuses like Pushkin are rarely born. But good poems outlive their creators for a long time, delighting more and more generations of readers with their extraordinary purity and shrillness.

Often, genius poems are born during periods of great upheaval. So, during the Great Patriotic War, in the years of the hardest trials that fell to the lot of the peoples inhabiting the Soviet Union, a whole galaxy of bright poets appeared. The poems created during the war are distinguished by a variety of genres. This is a bright journalism, and soulful lyrics, and caustic, evil satire.

But even in peacetime poetry does not remain aloof from the life of society. Poems can become answers to the deepest questions that arise in the soul of our contemporaries. Pictures and images created by poets can draw the attention of society to the most complex and acute issues of our time.

Can you imagine our life without poetry? Without poems touching the thinnest strings of the soul, without wonderful songs and even without naive, but touching congratulations on the holiday, composed by a child for his mother? Wouldn't such a life be incredibly dull and boring? After all, it will not have that explosion of emotions and experiences that poetry gives us.

    Traditions

On the day of Poetry Day, a wide variety of events are held. Despite the fact that it was officially recognized recently, certain traditions of celebration have already developed.

On this evening, various literary readings, poetry evenings are held, meetings of poets with admirers of their work are organized. Often, contests are held for novice poets, this allows them to identify young talents and give them the opportunity to develop their abilities.

On Poetry Day, various events are held in educational institutions: schools, at the philological faculties of universities, as well as in libraries and publishing houses

If we talk about international events, then it is worth remembering the poetry festival, which is held annually in the small Macedonian town of Struga. For the first time this festival was held in the early sixties, when only local poets took part in it.

The event was organized in honor of the famous educators Miladinovs who lived in the 19th century. Since the brothers were born in the town of Struga, poetry events in their honor are also held in their homeland.

A year after its foundation, writers from all over Yugoslavia took part in the festival, at the same time an award was established, which was awarded to the author of the best book of poetry published by a local publishing house.

Four years after its foundation, the event became international. The scale of the award also changed, and it was decided to call it the Golden Crown. She began to be awarded for achievements in the field of versification.

Over the years, famous Soviet poets such as Okudzhava, Voznesensky, Rozhdestvensky also received awards. Photos of these talented people will forever remain in the gallery of the festival's laureates.

Over the years of the existence of the poetry festival, the town of Struga has received as guests and participants of the festival several thousand poets, as well as translators involved in poetry and literary observers representing almost a hundred different countries of the world.

A literary biennale is held annually in the Russian capital, bringing together poets from different countries. In addition, two literary prizes are awarded annually: "Moscow Account" for Muscovite poets and "Moscow-transit" for Russian poets.

Poetry Day is a great opportunity for young poets to express themselves. In addition, this day allows small publishers to come to the fore. After all, the works of modern poets, most often, are produced by small publishing houses and literary associations.
