    The use of insulation penoplex. Penoplex wall insulation technology

    There are several technologies for fixing penoplex. The choice of the appropriate option depends on the application and structural features of the particular system. It is possible that a dynamic effect will be exerted on the plates or the penoplex will play the role of waterproofing.

    Mounting on glue is a universal method for fixing polystyrene foam on the wall. It is used in structures requiring reliable fixing of slabs under load: ventilated facades, surfaces for plastering, basements and internal walls. For gluing Penoplex panels, various compounds are used that do not have organic solvents (gasoline, acetone and the like):
    • On the basis of cement with mineral additives - Ceresit CT85, Plitonit Stf, UNS or Stopper K-20;
    • On a polyurethane base - Zenit-36 / 1L, Kleiberit Pur Leim, Tytan Styro, Emfikol 225 or Isolemphi 3104/11;
    • When insulating underground parts of buildings, compositions containing bitumen are used - Bitumast, Den Bit-S Styrbit, BNK-45/190.
    The adhesive is spread over the surface of the slab in strips, dots (beacons) or in a continuous layer. Regardless of the application method, certain requirements are met:
    • The composition is applied at least 2 cm from the edge to prevent the solution from getting into the joints;
    • When installing multilayer thermal insulation, the panels are distributed in a checkerboard pattern, providing a "bandage" of the joints;
    • Penoplex is fixed immediately after applying the glue;
    • The distance between the plates is less than 2 mm;
    • Thickness deviation - no more than 3 mm;
    • An expansion joint 1.5 cm wide is sealed with moisture resistant mastic.

    Gluing technology: at a distance of 20–30 mm from the attachment point, the plate is applied to the wall and pressed, then shifted to the desired position.

    After gluing the foam, mechanical fixation is performed using special fasteners:
    • Mushroom dowels with a plastic core - for low-rise buildings and indoor installation;
    • Dowel dowels with a galvanized metal nail - for high-rise buildings and structures subject to heavy loads;
    • Dowels with a thermal head - in order to prevent point freezing of the heat-insulating layer.

    The dowel should enter the wall by 4–5 cm, and its head should be immersed in the insulation by about 1 mm.

    In front of the penoplex, the basement walls are waterproofed outside using polymer-bitumen materials. In this case, no glue is required - installation is carried out by melting the bitumen layer in 6–8 places and then pressing the plate. Above the soil level, in the basement area, 4 dowels are installed. on a sheet of expanded polystyrene with dimensions of 1200x600 mm. There is no need for mechanical fasteners underground, there is enough downforce of the soil. The slabs themselves do not need waterproofing, since water is not absorbed into them. For fastening the material to the walls, a flat plane is required, so all irregularities are preliminarily eliminated with plaster solutions. The first row of foam is placed on a galvanized plinth profile. The outer cladding with plates is made by the adhesive method; for reliability, plastic "umbrella mushrooms" are additionally installed. Number of mounting points - 4 pcs. per square meter, and around windows, doors and corners - 6-8 pcs. Installation of thermal insulation on interior walls is similar. When insulating a pitched roof, a persistent rail is used, which does not allow the foam sheets to roll. The height of the block must match the thickness of the board. After laying the expanded polystyrene, longitudinal strips 4–6 cm thick are mounted on top for ventilation. On horizontal surfaces - attic floors, floors - penoplex is placed without glue. Wooden flooring or concrete base must be level - permissible defects are not more than 4–5 mm. The gaps between the slabs are treated without toluene (usually found in winter varieties).

    Extruded polystyrene foam of the Penoplex brand is used to insulate loggias and balconies. The finishing process is clearly reflected in the video.

    Protection of the foundation from freezing is one of the important stages of thermal insulation of a house. Regardless of whether it is a brick, concrete, wooden or frame type of building device, the foundation is a connecting link and conductor of cold, therefore it needs proper insulation.

    Which insulation is better for the foundation, it is difficult to say unequivocally, each has its pros and cons and it all depends on the specific conditions and requirements.

    Within the framework of this article, we will consider the insulation of the foundation with penoplex with our own hands. Penoplex insulation (extruded polystyrene foam) is a modern, reliable and easy-to-install material. It is a thermal insulation board made of expanded polystyrene. As well as polystyrene, penoplex belongs to the class of styrene materials. Therefore, it has all the advantages of foam, but at the same time, it is devoid of its disadvantages.

    Penoplex - technical characteristics

    Physical and mechanical properties are presented in the table.

    The competitiveness of Penoplex in comparison with analogues (brick, concrete, wood, mineral wool, polystyrene) is clearly demonstrated by the figure.

    Comparison of Penoplex with other heaters in terms of the level of thermal conductivity (thickness with the same resistance to heat transfer)

    It becomes obvious why insulation of the foundation with foam is the most popular among other heat-insulating materials. Add here such an argument as the availability of material and ease of installation, and it will immediately become clear that if you rank heaters, then Penoplex should be put in the first place. It can be used for external and internal insulation, and no special tools are required for installation.

    Foundation insulation technology with penoplex - instructions

    Material:

    • penoplex plates. To insulate the foundation, a thickness of 300 mm is sufficient;
    • dowel umbrella (fungus);
    • glue for penoplex (glue mixture or glue-foam in a balloon). The use of foam will save money and time, even though in absolute terms glue-foam is more expensive. But she has much less expense. The glue mixture will be needed in any case, you need to cover the mesh with it;
    • assembly foam for sealing seams between sheets. In principle, the foam panels are distinguished by the "groove-comb" system, therefore, installation is carried out without through joints. But, in those places where you have to adjust the sheets to size, seams appear. To eliminate the possibility of cold bridges, the seams must be sealed;
    • deep penetration primer or bituminous mastic;
    • metal or polymer reinforcing mesh;
    • corner with mesh for facing the corners of the building. This material is used only if the basement is also to be faced.

    Tool:

    1. construction knife for cutting foam insulation and mesh;
    2. mixer and container for preparing the glue mixture;
    3. a spatula for applying the mixture;
    4. level;
    5. brush for applying a waterproofing layer;
    6. punch or drill.

    Insulation of the foundation with foam from the outside

    • Provide access to the foundation. To do this, you need to dig a trench with a depth equal to the depth of the foundation pouring. Many people advise to dig to the depth of soil freezing. This is advisable only if your foundation is below this level. That is, if the foundation ends below the level of soil freezing, then it is enough to reach this point.

      The width of the foundation must be sufficient for ease of use.

      The excavated soil should also not create obstacles to work or movement on the site. Better to immediately identify most of it. Take out to the garden or outside the site.

    • Foundation drainage system. With a high level of groundwater or improperly organized drainage from the roof of the building, water collects below and seeps to the foundation. As a result, significant damage is inflicted on him. To avoid this, you need to build drainage for the foundation. Its device will not take much time, especially since the trench for insulation has already been dug.

    How to drain the foundation:

    1. dig a trench;
    2. the bottom of the trench should have a slope of 5-6 °;
    3. the bottom is covered with gravel. Layer thickness 70-100 mm;
    4. geotexile is laid on gravel, in which the drainage pipe is wrapped;
    5. from above, the structure is covered with gravel.

    Now you can continue to work on self-insulation of the foundation with penoplex.

    • Dry the foundation surface well.It is easier to remove all unnecessary from a dry surface.
    • Eliminate foundation defects. Over time, the foundation could deform. Cracks are highly undesirable. Therefore, cracks need to be widened and primed. When the primer is dry, close the gap with a sand-cement mortar. It should be noted that all deep grooves or depressions are best aligned. Otherwise, an air gap will appear at the point where the sheet adjoins the surface. By itself, it carries no threat. But if water gets into it, then the surface of the foundation will gradually collapse.
    • Treat the foundation with bituminous mastic.Thus, a reliable waterproofing is created, because the foundation is that part of the house that is most in contact with moisture.
    • Beat off the level of the foundation. You will be guided by this upper edge when installing insulation.
    • Fastening the penoplex to the foundation.After the waterproofing layer dries properly, you can start installing the foam. The sheet is attached to the mortar using the "blot" method or a notched trowel on all surfaces. Many people use glue foam. Then it is put in place and pressed tightly for better grip. The groove-tongue system simplifies installation.
    • Attach the penoplex with umbrella dowels. This stage is performed only if it is supposed to insulate the foundation and the basement of the house at the same time.
    • Installation of a mesh for insulation (protection of the basement insulation from rodents). Reinforcing polymer or metal mesh of fine weaving is used. Metal is more difficult to fix, but this is the only way to keep the house from rodents. Polymer is easier to work with. To attach it, you need to apply a strip of glue on the top of the sheet and attach the mesh. Then, using a spatula, pull the glue mixture down. As it aligns, it will hide the mesh.
    • Finishing the insulated surface with glue or plaster.It is better to apply the glue in two thin layers rather than one thick one. Firstly, the layers will dry out faster this way. Secondly, the penoplex will be protected from mechanical damage when backfilling the soil.
    • Fill the trench with excavated soil. But it is better to use expanded clay. It will serve as an additional heat insulator.

    Insulation of the foundation with foam from the inside

    The process is also not difficult. In this case, the set of materials and tools is the same, and the sequence of work is as follows:

    • clean the wall surface;
    • eliminate defects. Deep cracks can be expanded and repaired with cement, and small cracks can be blown out with foam;
    • in the presence of fungi and mold, you need to eliminate them;
    • prime the entire surface of the foundation;
    • glue the penoplex plates. Both adhesive composition and glue-foam are suitable for interior work (even if it is planned to turn the basement into a living room);
    • fix the boards with "umbrellas" after the adhesive has dried. At this stage, the use of umbrellas is mandatory;
    • fix the mesh with glue solution;
    • plaster;
    • in the event that a living room is being prepared, perform a fine finish: mount drywall or putty and paint or wallpaper.

    The long service life of thermal insulation with the use of penoplex assumes the device of high-quality ventilation in the basement.

    Outcome

    As you can see, the performance of work on insulation of the foundation with Penoplex is not particularly difficult. Thanks to step-by-step instructions, you can independently insulate the foundation of the house.

    To make it comfortable to live in the house in any weather, so that one can go out on the loggia even in winter without warm clothes, you need high-quality insulation of walls, floors, ceilings. Today, many new insulation materials have appeared that protect house structures from heat loss. And penoplex stands out among them. Why has it become so popular in industrial and domestic use, what are its advantages and where is it used?

    Reasons for popularity

    Penoplex insulation has now become very popular in the insulation of buildings. They protect everything - from foundations to ceilings on balconies.

    This is due to the fact that the material attracts by its most important properties:

    • Working with him does not require special skills and knowledge,
    • It is inexpensive and the insulation is economical in price.

    What is Penoplex

    Insulation penoplex is an extruded expanded polystyrene. By its structure, penoplex - be it 31, 45. 31 - resembles the well-known foam plastic, but it has slightly different characteristics due to the peculiarities of production.

    During production, expanded polystyrene granules are foamed with freon or carbon dioxide. This allows you to obtain a material that is absolutely harmless to health, hypoallergenic and has a number of advantages over foam and other heaters.

    Penoplex is produced in the form of plates. The technical characteristics of Penoplex insulation are considered one of the most optimal for protecting a building. The dimensions of the slabs are standard, but they can be cut.

    Material properties

    The composition of the penoplex does not include any biological substances. Therefore, it never decays or decays. At least in the foreseeable future, the material cannot decompose under the influence of the environment and microorganisms - manufacturers declare that its service life reaches 50 years or more.

    The material has a very low thermal conductivity coefficient of 0.03 W / m · ºK, therefore it is a universal insulation.

    Penoplex is currently used for:

    • insulation of buildings,
    • insulation of roads,
    • runway insulation.

    Specifications

    • Significant flexural and compressive strength,
    • Its water absorption is 0.2-0.3%,
    • Vapor permeability of the material - 0.007-0.008 mg / m · h · Pa,
    • Resistant to temperatures - the insulation retains its characteristics and properties at temperatures from -50 to + 75 degrees.

    Penoplex advantages

    Thanks to these technical characteristics, the insulation has the following advantages:

    • The material is resistant to combustion and is considered fireproof,
    • Serves without losing its qualities for a long time - from 50 years,
    • Does not release toxic substances into the air during operation,
    • Does not absorb moisture,
    • Simple and easy to use.

    Penoplex types

    At the moment, several types of penoplex are produced, each of which has its own areas of application. Although this is a fairly versatile material, it is still better to follow the recommendations of the manufacturers and use different types of foam for certain types of work.

    Penoplex is of the following types:

    • Penoplex Wall has a density of 25-32 kg / cu. m. and serves for insulation of walls and partitions of buildings, basement floors.
    • Penoplex foundation has a density of 29-32 kg / cu. m. and serves to protect foundations from freezing, basements, basements. The water absorption of this type of material is practically 0.
    • Penoplex roofing has a density of 28-33 kg / m3. It is particularly lightweight, moisture resistant and rigid in structure. Therefore, it is more convenient for them to insulate roofs of any kind.
    • Insulation penoplex 31perfect for insulation of walls, ceilings, floors. It is widely used to insulate loggias and balconies, as well as to protect a number of roofs that are not in use - that is, they are not loaded with anything other than snow during precipitation.
    • Insulation 35 it is designed for floor insulation and is especially often used to create warm floors.
    • Insulation penoplex 45has a density of 35-47 kg / cu. m. and has a number of special characteristics that allow it to be a versatile material. Its compressive strength reaches 10% and is equal to 0.5 MPa. Its water absorption is such that even when completely immersed in water, the insulation 45 is practically not saturated with water.

    Due to its qualities, it is used for the insulation of industrial facilities. Penoplex 45 is widely used for insulating runways, any roads - railway tracks and asphalt road surfaces, especially if they are laid on heaving soil and permafrost; insulation of floors, foundations, roofs.

    Penoplex 45 allows you to insulate exactly the operated roofs, which can be accessed by vehicles, as well as floors that have a large load. Therefore, 45 is used for the insulation of industrial facilities.

    When it comes to the construction of residential buildings, then in the field of insulation of foundations and walls, especially in a harsh climate, Penoplex 45 is practically unmatched.

    Important: All types of penoplex are not afraid if they freeze, thaw and freeze again. Moreover, this does not affect their properties. They are resistant to acids, salts, alkalis, lime, alcohols, water-based paints, ammonia, cement, animal and vegetable oils.

    Application features

    Penoplex slabs are easy to cut - they can be cut to the desired size with conventional cutting tools. After cutting, the slabs are laid and fixed. It is necessary to choose glue for penoplex based on the manufacturer's recommendations. It should be borne in mind that some adhesives can damage it. The material is not resistant to gasoline, kerosene, benzene, polyester resins, acetone, oil paints.

    You can store the plates outdoors. But we must protect them from lying under the sun for a long time, since in the light the upper layers of the material begin to collapse.

    The technical characteristics of the material make it an almost ideal insulation. Therefore, it can be used in almost any conditions and on any objects. And the simplicity of installation and work with it makes it available for independent work.

    Rating

    Expanded polystyrene boards are used for cladding buildings from the inside or outside. The reasonable price and low thermal conductivity possessed by Penoplex insulation makes this insulation one of the most popular building materials on the market.

    Characteristics of Penoplex insulation

    Penoplex can be insulated from the outside and from the inside.

    Extruded polystyrene foam is available in several types in the form of plates. The dimensions of Penoplex insulation in length and width practically do not differ. Their difference in thickness (from 20 to 100 mm) and material density (from 25 to 47 kg / cubic meter). The type is selected depending on the area of \u200b\u200buse. Insulation with a lower density is used for the inside of the house than for the outside.

    What are the advantages of Penoplex insulation? Material characteristics:

    • durability;
    • low vapor permeability;
    • minimal water absorption;
    • high strength;
    • low thermal conductivity;
    • environmental friendliness.

    A feature of the material is its high thermal insulation qualities. How is this done? This characteristic is ensured by cells that are isolated from each other and evenly distributed throughout the entire structure of Penoplex thermal insulation. They have a small diameter (up to 0.1 cm).

    This structure of the material provides good indicators of strength, density, vapor permeability and thermal conductivity. It is quite simple to install, so you can carry out the work yourself. Insulation Penoplex with standard board sizes is easily cut into pieces of the desired size.

    The main disadvantage of the material is that it does not tolerate interaction with chemicals and infrared light spectrum.

    Any paint, acetone or gasoline can destroy Penoplex. One of the main characteristics of Penoplex insulation is its density. Depending on this indicator, the material is used to protect against cold:

    If the roof is used as a pedestrian zone, then Penoplex 45 will protect the site from destruction in severe frosts. After choosing the type of material, you can start installing it. The process of carrying out work on the installation of Penoplex insulation in the photo can be seen more clearly.

    Mounting material

    Internal insulation of the balcony with Penoplex.

    More often buildings from the outside. Therefore, the process of installing insulation on vertical surfaces will be considered, consisting of the following stages:

    • preparation;
    • alignment;
    • installation of plates;
    • applying plaster.

    Preparing the base of the wall begins with cleaning the surface from dirt and dust. If there is old plaster, it is also removed. Then a layer of primer is applied.

    Priming the surface is necessary for better adhesion of the Penoplex thermal insulation material to the wall. The insulation will adhere more firmly to the surface. A double coat of primer will improve the adhesion rate.

    Any visible irregularities on the wall should be removed with plaster. For this, the mixture diluted with water (the proportions are indicated on the putty package) is applied to the wall with a spatula. Wait until the wall is completely dry. Then the surface is carefully sanded with sandpaper.

    After cleaning the wall, another layer of primer is applied. The installation of the plates starts from the bottom, and they are attached with special glue. The weight of Penoplex insulation is small, because the adhesive composition is able to withstand it on a vertical surface. Then mechanical fastening is performed with mushroom dowels. 5 fasteners are used per slab (4 in the corners and 1 in the center).

    After installing the boards, putty is applied. Penoplex insulation used for walls with a density of up to 33 kg / m. the cube is sanded for better adhesion of the finish. After the wall is completely dry, the wall is revetted with any material. The video shows how to work with expanded polystyrene foam:

    When choosing thermal insulation, you should pay attention to the fact that the properties of Penoplex, as a heater, are excellent for protecting any premises from the cold. The high performance characteristics of this material provide a comfortable microclimate in the house. And the ease of installation will allow you to independently carry out insulation.

    Correctly performed insulation of the floor and walls of the house from the inside and outside greatly helps to reduce heat loss and save a lot of money on this. A variety of materials are used to insulate residential and industrial buildings. The most common insulation materials are mineral and glass wool, polystyrene, foam.

    Penoplex is suitable for thermal insulation of any facades with different finishes (plaster, siding).

    Today we will focus on penoplex. It is also called extruded expanded polystyrene. This material has some advantages over other heaters:

    • excellent heat insulator;
    • very lightweight material;
    • has high strength;
    • has a long service life;
    • environmentally friendly;
    • resistant to moisture;
    • does not rot;
    • resistant to alkalis, acids and solvents;
    • easy to install.

    This insulation material goes on sale in the form of plates. Their standard dimensions are 600 x 1200 mm with a thickness of 20-100 mm. Usually the boards are packed in packs of 7 pieces.

    Penoplex application

    Penoplex is used as a heater for interior and exterior walls, floors, and foundations. For internal wall insulation, it is recommended to use a material with a thickness of 30 mm. For the floor - 20-100 mm. The fixing of the plates is usually carried out using disc dowels at the rate of 5 pieces per sheet. Dowels are installed at the corners and in the center of the panel. The joints can be treated with polyurethane foam. Installation of insulation boards begins from the corner of the room.

    When insulating the foundation, the insulation slabs are glued to vertical surfaces with bitumen mastic, cement-based mortar, and dowels. On top of the penoplex, you can apply decorative plaster, mount any facing material.

    Installation of foam insulation

    How to fix penoplex with your own hands? Installation of insulation is simple and easy. For work you will need:

    • penoplex in slabs;
    • foil made of polyethylene;
    • special disc dowels for attaching foam;
    • polyurethane foam;
    • sharp knife;
    • drill or hammer drill;
    • hammer;
    • adhesive bitumen composition;
    • vapor barrier film;
    • scotch.

    Stage 1. Before using the penoplex mount, you need to clean the surface of the walls from mastic and oil stains, from dust and dirt, from the remnants of peeling plaster and paint, from fungi and mold. To do this, you can use a spatula, steel brush, sandpaper, sanding mesh, special chemical cleaners. The base can be treated with an antiseptic composition, which is suitable for copper sulfate.

    Stage 2. On the base, a vapor barrier tape is fixed with adhesive tape. This work starts from the floor. The sheets of the film are laid with an overlap of 15 cm. The joints are glued with tape.

    Step 3. The foam board is applied close to the wall. Holes are drilled in the corners and in the center of the slab for installing dowels. They must penetrate into the wall for the length of the dowel. A little foam is blown into each hole and a dowel-fungus is hammered. In this case, the dowel plate is recessed by about 1 mm into the insulation material. A metal or plastic rod from the kit is inserted into the center of the dowel and hammered in with a hammer until it stops. The rest is cut off. The installation and fastening of the remaining plates is carried out in the same way.

    Stage 4. The tile joints are filled with foam. After a day, excess dried foam is removed with a construction knife.

    Other mounting methods

    Penoplex in the form of slabs can be fixed on the wall and on the floor not only with dowels. There are also various adhesives based on bitumen, dry mixes and mastics.

    The disc dowel is made of polypropylene. It has a head with a diameter of 80-100 mm and a metal or plastic rod in the form of a nail. It is used for fastening insulation to concrete and brick walls. The recommended consumption is 5 dowels for each sheet of material.

    The adhesive composition in the form of a mastic based on bitumen with polymer additives has a thick consistency that can stick to a vertical surface. This composition is applied to a previously prepared wall, free from dust and greasy stains, pointwise. The number of such points is 10-12 for each square meter of insulation. Instead of dots, you can apply stripes 4 cm or more wide. The mass consumption should be within the framework of 0.5-1 kg / m². The mastic contains solvent and bitumen, so the room must be well ventilated.

    Dry adhesive mixture is used for working with concrete and brick bases. The mixture is diluted with water in accordance with the instructions for use. It is applied in a continuous strip about 3-4 cm wide along the edge of the insulation plate. On the rest of the surface of the foam, the mixture is applied in the form of large dots. The thickness of the adhesive is about 20 mm. The diameter of the dots is 8-10 cm. Instead of such glue, you can use a cement-based plaster mortar.

    The adhesive labeled TYTAN STYRO 753 works great. It does not need to be diluted, it is sold ready-made. The INSTA-STIK adhesive has proven itself to be of good quality. For gluing insulation boards, polyurethane foam is also used. But you need to remember that it is not durable and begins to decompose over time. It is not recommended to fasten the material in this way to vertical surfaces. But it can be used when laying thermal insulation on the floor. Almost all methods of attaching foam plastic do not differ from similar works with foam.

    Insulation of walls and floors in living rooms allows you to save a lot of money on paying for heat carriers.

    Plaster, mineral wool, polystyrene and other materials are used as insulation. In recent years, penoplex is often used for these purposes.
